I recently got caught cheating on my religion summer work and proceeded to lie to my school’s honor committee about it. They found out I was lying, and I do not know my punishment yet. My friend who told the truth got a two day in school suspension. How would a possible suspension affect my chances at getting into schools like Michigan, UNC, and UMass?
It will be a red flag on your application, but if you’re a freshman you’ve got time to prove you learned your lesson and matured.
What if I’m a junior?
It doesn’t seem to me like you’ve accepted and taken responsibility for this. Your response shows no remorse for what you’ve done and that doesn’t sit well with anyone. Instead of asking what your chances would be, you should think about what you’ve done and apologize to your teachers, showing you have the courage to own up to your mistakes.
That said, since this is your junior year, the cheating is going to leave a pretty big mark on your application. The best you can do is explain this in your essay or talk to your counselor.
