Susquehanna U. -how difficult is it to get there?

My son was accepted at susquehanna and we intend to visit next month. We are in westchester county, NY and the drive is about 3 hrs., 30 min. It looks nearly impossible to take a convenient bus or train to the college, so this is putting me off, as there are a number of breaks when he must come home and driving won't always be an option. The Trailways bus ride to Port Authority looks like it takes nearly 7 or 8 hours! Anyone with better info on this?

’… driving won’t always be an option."

Not sure what this means, but I’ll accept the assertion at face value. I’m sure there are Ride Board or equivalent at Susquehanna and Bucknell. Failing that, the Friday/Sunday Express Bus from Lewisburg to NYC takes four and a half hours. Or have him take the bus to Harrisburg, and then Amtrak.

I was very impressed with Susquehanna, although my son ended up not attending there. If we had been only 3 1/2 hours away, I would have been thrilled! It was a long drive from Maine. I still have hope that our youngest may want to go there.

Here’s travel information posted by Bucknell:

We only live twenty minutes south of Susquehanna University, it’s a beautiful campus, and I can guarantee your child will be getting an A plus education. My friend was a music education major back in the eighties, graduated right into a job right in her field. My cousin was also a music ed major in the same time frame, and stepped pretty quickly into a job as a music teacher. As far as transportation, maybe a bus to Harrisburg or Williamsport, and maybe Megabus from there? My son is a current senior engineering major at Pitt and we have always used Megabus.

Our daughter is accepted to Susquehanna and is very interested in the school. It’s an easy 3.5 hr drive. We live just outside DC and it looks like the school has a shuttle that goes to Harrisburg before breaks. There kids can take Greyhound or other bus services to various mid Atlantic destinations. Not super convenient but what you’d expect given its location. I am hoping there are more kids who attend from the Baltimore area, and possibilities for ride shares to get there.

Challenging transportation is often a price paid for such a beautiful setting . . …
