Well I finally sent in my deposit for Pitt about a week and a half ago, and already signed up for the May 23rd-24th PittStart, but the only thing that I'm waiting on is the housing packet, which hasn't arrived yet. I'm really looking into Sutherland as my first choice, albeit a bit far from the rest of the campus. And I already have a roommate selected (possibly two), so that isn't a problem. But from what I remember hearing, even though we're allowed to pick our dorms freshman year, it's on a first- come first serve basis, so I'm afraid that I won't get the dorm that I want. Is this true? Do I have a better chance of getting into Sutherland since I already have my roommate(s) picked out? One of them already has his housing packet, but he hasn't sent it in because I haven't received mine yet.. When do you think I'll get the housing packet by?

Sutherland will be different this year because honors housing is moving there. Housing is not done on a first-come, first-served basis at Pitt. I don’t know whether anything improves your chances for Sutherland. My daughter got it as a freshman because of the living/learning community she was in.

Hi BC1117,

To follow up on what MD Mom has said, you will have as good a chance at living in Sutherland than all of the other freshmen who have chosen it as their first choice. All freshmen are assigned their housing shortly after the housing deposit deadline has passed on May 1st.

The Housing Office has been in the process of sending out the housing packets for the past few weeks, so you should be getting yours shortly.
