Swarthmore grade deflation

I'm a transfer applicant and I was accepted to swarthmore class of 2013!

I'm currently deciding b/w Columbia and Swarthmore.

I do not care about Ivy title, I care about what kind of person I would be after walking out of my undergrad school.

I am a big fan of liberal arts college, (Amherst and Swat) so I am definately leaning toward being swattie.

However, one thing that really bothers me is what we call a grade deflation at swarthmore.

I was top 1 percent student at my high school (other top 1 percent went to princeton williams amherst ) and i went to Emory for my freshman year.

I ended up with 3.96 gpa, and it was not THAT hard. I did work hard, but not as much as i did in high school.

But swarthmore and Emory, they are totally different.

I'm scared about what i'm gonna get at swarthmore.

No matter waht, I will transfer to swarthmore, but I want to know how severe the grade deflation is. Will i be able to survive?

my friend who is at amherst and had very similar academic record ended up with aroudn 3.6~3.7 this year, and I wonder if I can do better than that at swarthmore..

what do you guys think my fellow swatties

The median GPA at Swarthmore last year was 3.53. Of course, it varies considerably depending on your major and so forth. A 3.98 would be a tall hurdle and a rare occurence at Swarthmore, but GPAs in the 3.5 to 3.7 range are pretty frequent.

that’s not “grade deflation”!
Ok, that makes me feel better now…
thank you:)
