Sweet Briar Student In Need Of Help!

I am a Sweet Briar student and due to the unfortunate news of my school closing at the end of the term, we have all had to look for new schools to apply too. Currently I have been accepted into Mary Baldwin, Randolph ( in Lynchburg) and Lynchburg College. Unfortunately I have not been able to visit either at the moment. Could someone give me some insight into these schools. Out of the three, which has the best business program? What are their reputations? I know Sweet Briar had the reputation of a finishing school of some sorts for rich girls who liked horses, what type of students do these schools attract? Thank you for the help!

First off, I’m so sorry that you have had to uproot yourself and transfer from Sweet Briar!

To me, it looks like Mary Baldwin has the most concentrations for business. Randolph is a close tie for a good business program, where it is also intertwined with economics. Its course offerings and curriculum look very strong. Lynchburg looks to me like, out of the three, as the least strong program.

For visiting, I recommend going on Youtube or Google and searching ____ campus tour. YOUniversity TV does a great job of featuring a small yet not exactly honest tour of campuses. :stuck_out_tongue: By searching some of the schools on Unigo (e.g. https://www.■■■■■■■■■/colleges/mary-baldwin-college/) , you can find their YOUniversity TV video and a nice overview of the campus and types of students there.

Mary Baldwin seems like a very artsy type of school with an emphasis of student activity in theater, music, etc. It’s similar to Sweet Briar where it’s an all-women’s school.

Lynchburg seems like it has an active Greek life and sports scene. It’s a small community but you probably wouldn’t feel like it was if you were there!

I couldn’t find much on Randolph to judge. Good luck with your decision!

So, now Sweet Briar College is staying open!!!

I think the Faculty is meeting on Friday to regroup and consider what they can offer in the way of classes. Gen Ed classes might have to be farmed out but most of the department heads are concerned with offering courses the seniors in their departments will be needing for graduating on time.

Personally, I LOVE Randolph!!! My daughter just graduated from Sweet Briar but her high school best friend went to Randolph and loved it. We live in Napa California but both girls went to Virginia for college! I really hope you return to Sweet Briar!
