Hello could someone give me some more information of Mary Baldwin College ? Is it a good school ? How does it compare with other all women colleges in Virginia such has Sweet Briar College and Hollins University ?

There are several schools in Southern Virginia which fit that role. Randolph Macon Womens’ College went co-ed a few years ago and is now Randolph College. Lynchburg has been co-ed a long time.

Mary Baldwin is in historic and beautiful Staunton, across from Woodrow Wilson’s birthplace home. It has the only all women’s cadet corps for ROTC.

It is an historic school and lots of wonderful warm people. However, its not easy times for any all women’s schools and enrollment is often challenging. They fight the good fight.

I like them, I like the campus and its a stellar education. Hollins is probably a little better and more competitive and offers a wonderful creative writing program. Its down the road a piece, closer to Roanoke College and Washington and Lee University. That entire I-81 corridor is full of good schools. Sweet Briar is also very historic and lots of legacy there. All of them have riding stables and riding teams and that is part of the culture there.

You really have to visit each one. There is a weekend they offer for a consortium visit where they all open their doors and offer you a good opportunity to catch them all at the same time and compare campus vibe and what suits you the best.

Nearby is UVa, Bridgewater College, JMU, VMI, W&L etc.

Don’t be freaked about single gender schools. They all socialize heavily with the other schools nearby for “dating” purposes etc.

Good luck.
