Swim Recruit for Ivies ?!

Hey, I'm a sophomore and was wondering what academic scores/grades are needed for specifically for Harvard/Columbia/Brown/Princeton/Cornell/Dartmouth/Yale (in that order) as well as Stanford.

I know that my gpa will improve definitely but I want to know as of right now my chances as if I was applying to these schools as a senior. I have an unw 3.599 - almost 3.6 and i took the sat already but I am definitely retaking it again because I know I can do better. I got a 2350 (which I am blessed to get for a non-genius like me lol) but I want to work on getting it to maybe a perfect score. I got my psat scores back and I received a perfect score on it (1600) so I am pretty confident on standardized testing. It is just my gpa I am worried about... I have taken all the highest classes my school has to offer (high honors) and then next year will be all IB HL classes. A 3.5 gpa is definitely NOT the classic 4.0 most of these students have but I am a nationally recognized swimmer and 1st in the state for 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, and 100 fly. My times are definitely around the times on swimswam's top recruting class for girls so as far as my athletic capability goes I'm pretty solid. I cannot do distance events and I think that may be a problem because I heard the Women's Harvard Swim and Dive team are always in need of distance swimmers and I am pure sprint.

I have a bunch of extracurriculars that I got going on and my school is pretty good i guess (top 100) and I am pretty gifted when it comes to writing but math is a struggle. Math and Latin are the reasons why my gpa is so low so i dropped High honors Latin and i only take Spanish HH.

So if i am a top notch swimmer with a perfect sat score and a 3.5 gpa, where does that put me with the Ivies? (Especially Harvard and Columbia).

note: I apologize for my CUPS :////

You need to be calm

Don’t worry about the SAT score. Worry about your GPA and being a sophomore. You’ve still got two years.

OP- you put a great deal of personal information in your post which is not always a good idea. See if you can edit out your events or change your name, etc.

@BostonianPerson, the Ivies all use a score called the Academic Index to roughy evaluate potential recruits. Coaches are very familiar with the AI - they don’t understand the details of a recruit’s academic profile, but they understand they AI and whether they will have an easy or hard time selling that recruit to the admissions committee.

The AI is made up of SAT (or ACT) scores +/- SAT subject scores + some indicator of academic performance in school (GPA or class rank/decile). I believe 176 is the minimum cutoff for Ivy acceptance, but you would have to be an Olympic athlete to get in with such a low score. Over 210-215 makes it a relatively easy sell for any Ivy coach who wants that recruit.

Your Academic Index is currently somewhere around 225-230, which is outstanding, mainly because of your 2350 SAT score. This suggests a few things:

  1. Don't worry. If you are as good a swimmer as you say, you shouldn't have trouble getting on the radar of Ivy coaches, or coaches at places like Stanford or Duke. And if a coach wants you, he/she shouldn't have too much trouble selling you to an admissions committee.
  2. Don't bother to retake your SAT. AI is all that matters, and a 2400 won't help your AI more than your 2350 already dose.
  3. Getting your GPA up a bit and getting good SAT II scores will help reinforce the overall impression that you are academically qualified, but even as you are today you are in good shape.

Good luck!
