Swiss (and other European) Boarding Schools

We are interested in hearing from parents and learners who have personal experience with Swiss boarding schools, including those that have day school programmes to start. We are asking for our children who range from 4th to 10th grades. Thank you!

I am also interested in this topic. Swiss boarding schools seem quite expensive; do Swiss boarding schools offer financial aid as do US boarding schools, or are Swiss boarding schools exclusively for the very wealthy ?

Do you have to know German/French to attend Swiss boarding school? I’m not really interested, just curious.

No.

Most boarding schools are in the French region and are either bilingual English/French or primarily use English.

@SchoolDayz I graduated high school from The American School in Switzerland, which is located in Lugano (Italian region). Loved my time there. They have day students and currently have elementary thru high school. When I was there it was only 9th-12th. It has an American curriculum and all classes are taught in English (aside from the foreign languages they offer). The school population was always very diverse- many kids from all over the world. As far as socio-economic diversity, the majority of families were very wealthy, however there were plenty of American students whose parents worked for large international companies or organizations that paid for most if not all of the tuition, as a benefit for their employees living abroad. The school incorporates a lot of academic travel and always kicks off the second semester with a two-week stay at a ski resort in the Alps- mornings there were spent either on the slopes or on the ice and classes were held in the afternoon. The teachers were a mix of all nationalities and backgrounds. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions!

Is there an age limit ? If not, where do I sign up ?

^ I know, right? I’m always telling my kid I am going to go to college again with him/her, but this time I am going to do it right. Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield is a great movie!
