Swiss and other European boarding schools.

What are some really good European boarding schools? Does anyone have any experience with Leysin or TASIS in Switzerland?

Well I'm not sure about Swiss Boarding schools but I'm sure you know that England has many boarding schools like Eton and Harrow but those are geared mainly towards a British Education/University Prep

In Rome there is St Stephen's School, which is supposed to have excellent academics. It has a website.

Yeah, I've seen St. Stephen's website, but there's only like 9 boarders or something ridiculous like that. lol.

Thanks, Hazmat.

Anyone else?

D has friend at TASIS-Belgium????????? Feels the education is mediocre.

I got a brochure from TASIS - Athens and TASIS - Switzerland.

How do these schools compare to American boarding schools?

Zug is walking out the door to skiing and down the mountain to fun. I guess you are asking academic? Do you know IB?

I don't think they compare academically or matriculation wise. For what it's worth, the top 50 american / international bs on prepreview........has no TASIS schools. Heck maybe because it's USA/Great Brit? lol

Could anyone purchase the Top 50 Global Boarding school rankings? lol jk

Yes, I know what IB is. I looked at a lot of the European schools, and the academics doesn't seem that great. In the UK, there's a lot of really good schools, academically, but they're mostly all boys, which isn't what I'm looking for.

Ah the boys and girls or all one. Let yourself look at all options. There is always a girls program near the boys programs. Always. You won't be short of girls just not in the classroom with them.

Unless there is a very specific reason to attend a boarding school abroad (i.e. family / parents working abroad), I can't see a compelling reason to do so - particularly given the amazing number of excellent schools right here in the States.

If one is very keen on studying abroad, my advice is to aim to do so during college (for a semester or even a year).

most US boarding schools have study abroad experiences. Term long or year long.http://www.exeter.edu/academics/84_256.aspx

Yeah, I was just looking for some in Europe that aren't as hard to get into, but have pretty good academics.

I rather stay in North America, though. lol. I was just looking...

Prepparent - Please post the Global Top 50!!! :)

when do you take your SSAT exam?

I haven't registered yet. I think I'm going to take it in October or November. I still have about three months to register.

sounds good. Keep us posted. I know you are doing a lot of research. Make sure you choose a couple of lesser to gain admission schools just in case.

Could you recommend some?

Trust me (I lived in England for two years), don't look at boarding schools in England, unless they are American schools.
The British education system is completely different than the American one (most choose their career at 16, drop out of school and study nothing but their chosen field from then on) and I think you'd have an extremely hard time adjusting.
BTW, Eton has this huuuge drug problem.
