I'm a civil engineering major at UMD. I seriously am considering changing my major from civil engineering to computer science. I have come to realize that me and engineering do not mix. I never had that "i like to build stuff and take it apart" mentality that other engineers had when they were babies, but i do have an interest in software. I already learned a lot of Java from high school AP computer science. I even got a 5 on the exam. I know some C from electrical engineering and know MATLAB from my civil engineering programming course.

Do you think I would do well in computer science? Is it hard to find a job with a CS degree? Is it CS competitive academically and career-wise? How often do I have to update my skills to remain relevant? If there are any CS grads out there, what industries are you working in right now? What is life like a CS major? Any information will be helpful. Thanks.
