Switch Major?

I chose the Bioengineering major on my UCB and UCLA app, however, after looking more closely at the transfer admission profile (at least for UCLA), it appears that my GPA falls WAY short of the 3.72 admitted average. However, another major, Biophysics (gets me the same place as bioengineering) had only 10 people apply last year, one of whom was admitted, and that person had a 3.23 GPA. My question is, would it be worth writing a letter to UCB and UCLA to change the major I applied for? I know getting into the college of Letters and Sciences was easier than Applied sciences, but how much will it affect my chances of being admitted?

Statistically speaking it would be advantageous to change your major. Realistically it’s impossible to tell since admission evaluation is also affected by the overall quality of the applicant pool and there is no way to know what that looks like for this year.
