So I was super excited when I got accepted into USC. It's my number one choice, after all, and gotta love sunny Southern California!

However, I have a small problem.

During the application process, I was torn between Annenberg and Cinematic Arts, so I just went for Annenberg. Well, cool, now I'm in, except... I changed my mind. I would like to do Cinematic Arts instead.

What should I do? Can I just switch to Cinematic Arts, or do I need to send in a supplement? I am fully willing to send in film materials, but is anything certain? My parents won't send me across the country (I'm from NJ) unless I am getting exactly what I want over there. fjkladjf HELP.

well now you have to transfer in, which is d a m n hard to do. annenberg is a much easier school to get into, and a lot of students looking to go to sca apply to the college and annenberg, hoping to transfer in b/c they won’t get in regular. well usc is wise to that, so good luck getting in.

leslie: switch after you get there. my bro’s friend’s sister switched after one or two semesters and she was in Ann. No major film study starts until jr. year. good luck and see ya at SCA

Unfortunately, you can’t just switch to cinematic arts. You have to apply and be accepted. I think you would be wise to speak with someone at SCA connected to the particular major that interests you and finding out the procedure for applying to transfer in. I think that up to a third of the film undergrads at SCA are transfers, but I’m not sure if SCA reserves spots for transfers who are already USC students or if prospective transfers are competing with the entire pool of transfer applicants. If you could find out how many USC students applied to transfer into the SCA major of your choice last year and how many were accepted, that might give you more to go on. And I’m not sure about all SCA majors, but students do begin to take courses in screenwriting, interactive, and animation in freshman year. In production, the specific production sequence doesn’t begin until all GE’s are finished (with the possible exception of the second writing course), but for a majority of students, that is second semester of soph year. And before then, it is possible to take specialty courses in areas like cinematography which might not be available to students who are not in SCA. Annenberg is a wonderful school, but if you think you’ll only be happy at USC if you’re in SCA, please check out the facts on within-USC transfers before making your college decision.
