Hello CC,

I recently completed a 2 year associates degree at my local community college system and transferred to George Mason, and have completed 1 year of Accounting. Now I have had a change of heart and want to study engineering (leaning towards computer science). After looking I probably have 3 more years left at George Mason which is discouraging, but if engineering's right for me the wait is worth a career i'll enjoy.

Now, I have an interesting opportunity. If I go back to my community college and complete a 2 year engineering degree (would take me a year and a half), I can have a Guaranteed Admission to VA Tech. The thought of going back to community college seems a little crazy, but VA Tech is a really good engineering school and if I have a chance I'm thinking i'll regret it later if I dont take it. I think Mason is OK, but VA Tech will likely open more doors for great tech companies and/or elite graduate schools. I'm seriously leaning towards VA Tech, but I want some opinions on whether or not this idea is crazy.

Tech will be more expensive because I will have to live on campus vs. staying at home. That is a downside, but 20 years from now looking back I don't think i'll regret the extra debt for the opportunity. I'm 22 years old and have been getting down thinking about how all my friends are already graduating, and here I am thinking about a new degree path and basically starting over. Graduating in the tech field at 25 or 26 just seems so old, but i'm convinced its the right career for me. Plus, Mason will take about 3 years, and transferring to tech i'm guessing will take 3.5, so that predicament shouldn't really influence my decision. I have a strong interests particularly in research, so keeping graduate school opportunities open is important to me.

Any advice or tips on my decision to transfer to VA Tech? I'm leaning towards computer science, but am interested in the other engineering fields as well and am not completely decided. Thanks for any advice in advance.
