!!Switching from the SAT to ACT. Help needed!!!!

I just received my scores for the October SAT and got a 1310 M & CR, and a total score of 1940 M/CR/W.

Just to clue you in, I want to get into Stanford university and my counselor told me to try the ACT, what is a good score for Stanford and is it possible to receive such a score by December. Would a switch be easy or are the two test way different, like is one harder than the other.

What practice books should I use, and what's the difference between the two tests? Thank you everyone.

ACT focuses more on what you've learned and your knowledge of things while SAT requires more strategy and knowing what you're doing on the test. You also have to be prepared for the strict time limits on the ACT, but I'd say if you got a 1900 on the SAT you should be able to get a 30 on the ACT at the least which could get you into Stanford.

I'd reccomend Princeton Review and/or the Real ACT Prep Guide for preparing for it. That's what I'm using right now, I ordered both because the Real ACT Guide supposedly has good practice tests and the PR has good tips from what I've heard

Thank you dr10, so are the questions easier and the only problem just timing. So I'm guessing if i get the timing down, I'll be able to score in the 30s, or am I completely wrong. Any more input?

Personally, I think that the ACT is MUCH easier than the SAT. My scores don't exactly match: 35 ACT and 2150 SAT.

What do you think contributed to such a difference, or is it easier to get a 33 ACT than getting a 2100 SAT?

i'm in a similar situation, farrct (not applying to stanford though)

The Real ACT Prep Guide is a good resource. Just be aware that Stanford is very selective by ACT scores, so be sure to line up a safety college to apply to also.

What do u mean by selective, do u mean that one needs a really high score to get in?

Here are figures from a Stanford brochure I picked up at a Stanford information meeting on 8 October 2007:

Stanford Admission Rates by ACT Score Range

           Percent of Admit Percent of
           Applicants Rate Admitted Class

Higher than 34 9% 18% 25%

Between 29 and 34 61% 11% 50%

Lower than 29 30% 7% 25%

yes its easier as a 2100 is a 32 or 31 on the ACT
