Switching from Undeclared to ChemE

Right now I'm debating whether I should attend UIUC for ChemE or go to UCB as a pre-business/undeclared major and try transferring to the ChemE department. The people on CC have said that since ChemE is in the College of Chemistry at UCB, its relatively easy to get the transfer as long as you maintain Bs in all of your classes. Is this true? Would you recommend I stay safe and go to UIUC or take the risk and go to Berkeley? I plan on living in Cali in the future and Berkeley is my top choice, so its going to be a tough decision.

Also, any ChemEs who are currently at UCB or have graduated, how was/is the experience? Are you able to manage doing other things like frats, maintaining a social life, joining clubs, etc.? Are you happy with the education that you're receiving? Any advice for a prospective ChemE?

It’s a pretty safe bet that you’ll be able to transfer from Undeclared to ChemE. I know several people that have already done it (including me) and you can start transferring as early as in the summer w/o even submitting any grades.

Thanks sagert. So most people’s transfer requests to ChemE end up going through? Also, any advice to an incoming freshman for ChemE?
