I was wondering how switching high schools junior year would affect my chances of getting into good colleges ( my top choices are NYU, BU, GWU ) I am currently a sophomore at a public school with a 4.3 GPA, involved in tons of ECs such as speech and debate, key club (I am the officer for the club), peer tutoring, and best buddies. I am in the top 10% of my class. However, the opportunity has come up to switch schools in a different town that has a much better high school. Academically I am doing very well where I am, but socially not as much-- I live in a very small suburb with kids who are not passionate or determined about anything, and my parents think it would be a good opportunity for me to go to a school where I can be surrounded with more people like myself (School I would transfer to is right next to the city of Chicago). Any thoughts or personal experience to help with the decision? I always thought academics should be first but high school has been a little lonely here and that has really made me consider switching. Thanks!
Honestly I think it would be a bit of a risk. You’re already kinda far in imo, and it sounds like a school like that would be even more academically competitive maybe? It might drop your class rank. You said the environment there would be more passionate, but you seem to be fairly involved anyways. Is the only reason you are considering it is because a lack of social stuff?
Have you actually visited this potential school?
I transferred schools after my sophomore year. Don’t let college admissions affect your decision. It makes no difference.
