Hi I'm currently a freshman at a public high school I go to now is pretty mediocre. The academics are okay the activities are okay, the people are okay but the only spectacular program they have is theater which I can't take until junior year. I kinda want to switch to our sister/rival school with better academics and programs. It also doesn't hurt my friends go there also. What I want to know is how much will it affect me transferring schools after freshman year and going to a different school sophomore year. Academically and socially and from a college's perspective.

I think if you have a good reason (which is that you wish to be pushed more academically) colleges should be ok with your transfer. You need to make the reason clear on your application but it’s a totally acceptable reason and one they should absolutely understand. Since you’re still a freshman it’s not a big deal to transfer, but obviously I wouldn’t wait until junior year. If you’re going to transfer, absolutely do it ASAP.

If you are going to a different school because its harder then there is no problem with it and you may want your new GC to note this in your recommendation.

In terms of social life, it’ll probably be like starting freshmen but a bit easier. I think high schoolers are most friendly while they’re sophomores.
