I was admitted to McDonough at Georgetown and I was wondering if there's any way to switch schools (i.e. major in something completely different). I'm sure it's possible to switch majors but what if it's switching from McDonough to Georgetown College, for instance?
Would this happen before matriculation? Before classes start?

I asked the admission person that and she made a big deal about choosing the right school, but that it is possible and you don’t have to reapply.

I heard that you have to wait until the end of your first year, and then you have to get official permission.

If you work fast and contact admissions before June (maybe the end of June, but to be safe), you can switch schools without transferring between schools at the end of freshman year!

Would they probably ask you to write an essay or something explaining the switch?

Perhaps? I’m not sure, as I almost switched schools before freshman year but ultimately decided not to. I could ask a friend who switched schools before freshman year, but I’d definitely contact admissions soon, as it’s a lot easier when you do it early…it didn’t seem like I was going to have to write an essay, but I can’t be sure since I didn’t go through with it.

I contacted admissions last Friday but they never got back to me.

@itshelenmelon: This is probably a busy time for them, hearing from a lot of students wondering how to get off the waitlist or trying to figure out why they were rejected. I would give it another week before trying to contact them again or anything. I’m sure they’ll get back to you, and, when they do, please let the rest of us know their response.

I’d encourage people interested in the school switching topic (which is a perennial issue on this board) to have a look at: [" + artTitle.replace(“-”,“”) + " - " + “The Hoya” + " - " + “News” + "](http://www.thehoya.com/news/rethinking-best-fit-gu-school-1.2137255) . I’m an alum and I actually learned from it. In my experience, most people who want to transfer have been able to, but according to the article, only about 30% of transfers into the MSB/SFS get approved. Certainly, if you want to change, get in touch with admissions sooner rather than later.
