So I'm most probably going to IU this fall :)

I was just wondering, I have applied to the College of Arts and Sciences but have lately been realizing what exactly it is I want to do. I've been thinking of a double major in Business Marketing and Journalism.

But...my question is, since I have not applied for either of those majors, how early do I go about applying for those? If I can apply as early as the end of freshmen year, let's say I don't get accepted to Kelley or the Journalism school...can you reapply for those schools again a semester or a year later? Because you tend to start your actual major classes your junior year, correct?

I'm just curious as to exactly how this process works, since I'll have to plan accordingly...
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Also, just to give me an idea...can anybody tell me what the average GPA tends to be for getting into the Journalism school and the Business school? (Meaning, your GPA at IU before applying to those majors)

a business and journalism double would be very hard. for business gen ed requirments, you would do the specialization option, and then 27 journalism credits would count towards business degree. your problem arises in that you then have 15 more courses (45 credits) of arts & sciences gen ed. that is to say, in 4 years, it is impossible.

Hmm I guess this is something I should look more into then...
I'm visiting in March and have signed up for a session with both the Business and Journalism school so hopefully that should give me some insight. The thing is I am interested in advertising and they don't offer that as a major, but both these majors offer courses related to advertising. So I suppose I will have to explore both and see which one is for me.

Doing a double major is difficult--but you can do a major in one area and a minor in the other. See the departmental websites for details. (Go to www.iub.edu and then click on Majors and Programs and pick Business, then pick Journalism)
