Switching majors?

After relentlessly asking advice on people's opinions on several universities, and after numerous phone calls made to let me in, I've decided to commit to the University of Pittsburgh.

Thing is, I applied for their as a Computer Science major, when I really wanted to graduate with a Computer Engineering degree.

A couple of questions:
1. How easy is it to switch majors?
2. How tough is their Comp Sci program if I can't switch?

When we met with the Dean of the Comp Sci dept he told us that you can;t even declare your major as CS until you finish the 4 base courses.

If you call the CS dept they can probably answer for you - they were very good at answering all our questions and concerns.

It’s slightly more difficult because they are in two separate schools. CS is in Arts and Sciences while CE is in the Engineering school.

It usually isn’t all that hard though, from what I hear. You basically just take the foundation engineering courses your freshman year (physics, chem, etc.) and then transfer sophomore year.

Can’t tell you much about the CS major. It’s probably easier than CE, not being in the engineering school. I think it’s a good program, and I think there is some collaboration with CMU.

It shouldn’t be a problem at all considering you haven’t even started yet. Contact the school of engineering how you can get it done sooner than later.

Here’s a link for internal transfers to the school of engineering (with contact info at the bottom):
