Switching schools after acceptance

I hope @hailtopitt1787 can help:

Happily, my child was accepted to Swanson Engineering, University Honors, and ALSO received a GAP acceptance letter for dental. As a family, based on information included in the dental GAP letter, we are now feeling like perhaps Liberal Arts is a better path to the ultimate goal of dental school.

  1. What would be the process to be considered for Arts & Sciences if already accepted to engineering
  2. Does this affect merit scholarship consideration?

Hello, @momah22. First off, congrats to your child!

I recommend that you call our office at 412-624-7488. (Or, if you have been introduced to a Pitt Territory Manager, you can reach out to them.) They will be able to walk you through the whole process in greater detail, and initiate it for you if you choose that path.

  1. Your child will need to request to be reviewed for admission to the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and the Admissions Committee will have to review them for admission to that school.
  2. This would actually be best to discuss when you call. I am not entirely sure the full impact it would have on scholarships.

Hope that helps clarify, and please do call to discuss this in greater detail.

Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

Thanks so much for your reply. What are the office hours that your office receives phone calls?

@momah22

8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST. Monday through Friday.

Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

Just an update: my child is going to stay put, as the dental school replied that they encourage students to “follow their passions” and since math/science is the passion, engineering it will be :slight_smile:
