Switching Schools Senior Year or Graduating Early and Going to College?

Hello all,

So I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. I am a junior this year and enjoy the high school I go to; I’ve made some great friends and hold a few leadership positions in different clubs.

The problem is that my parents have decided to move across the country to a different town the summer before what would be my senior year. I don’t know what to do because it really doesn’t sound great to try to make friends and spend my senior year at some random school I’ve never attended. I’m not an awesome friend-maker, and it usually takes me awhile to find my peeps. Plus, the place my family is moving to is a small town so likely most of the students there have known each other for years.

I have enough credits to graduate high school this year if I really wanted to and could apply to colleges. However, I’m worried about graduating early detracting from my application, and I did want to have a fun senior year with my classmates. It’s kind of a little late in the school year to decide to graduate this same year, and I’ve already missed most of the deadlines for senior activities at my current school (not in the class photo, can’t be in the yearbook as a senior, no senior trip, no senior skip day, etc).

Either way, I have to make this decision soon and start applying for colleges or let my school know I’m transferring.

Should I try to tough it out for a year at a different high school or should I just graduate and go to college?

Tough choice. Is there any advantage between the state flagships in the two states? Is there anyone in your current town (relative or close friends) you could stay with senior year?

What are the two states?
This matters because public university quality, costs, and financial aid are very different depending on state.

Can you look at the new town’s high school website? Perhaps reach out to the principal to ask about classes you’d be taking if you weren’t transferring? Explain the situation very politely: your parents are moving to the town of … and you have a choice between graduating early or attending ZY high school. If your parents weren’t moving and you’d stayed at the same HS, you’d be taking …, …, …, …, …, …, …; Would that be possible at ZY HS? Does the school have an X club? A Z club? How would it work for leadeship positions (would you be eligible or are positions voted on the year previous with no space for transfers baked in?) Don’t forget to close your message politely (Yours truly, DeeDee ZZZZZ)

I’m from Florida and my family’s moving to Wisconsin. I didn’t even think about asking about the club leadership thing, thanks @MYOS1634 . I think a lot of the classes I would take in FL would actually be available in WI also so that’s kinda nice
