switching schools to elevate rank!!!!

WHat do you guys think about switching skools for a better rank before applications?! I got a 3.6 gpa, 3.7 weighted (add .5 to each by the end of the semes) and yet im still ranked only 117 out of 685!!! Terrible! Should i switch schools and possibly double my rank. IM PRETTY SURE i can get into the top 10 percent but it may mean having to go to skool up to 10 miles away. Clever? No?

also i mean switching schools just few weeks if not 1 WEEK before applications

That's pretty ridiculous and obsessive. You're willing to leave behind friends and whatever else at your current school just so you can transfer and POSSIBLY be in the top 10%?

o yeah forgot friends no problem - almost the best part about it - some of my best friends go to this skool. Even in my senior year thats no problem readjusting plus i can hang with my old friends outside of skool.

3.6 unweighted and 3.7 weighted?

what classes have you been taking?

Switching your schools just a few weeks before your apps are due just to get a better rank? Seriously, that's the stupidest idea ive ever heard

I think you are going overboard.

And won't it look strange to the adcom that you suddenly switch to a school near-by?

Who is going to write your GC rec's? What about midyear grades? This doesn't sound like a very good plan to me.

mak2675 are you sure you're ready to go to college?

I'm not trying to be mean, however, whatever floats your boat. It is a free country everybody. Do not make fun of him. Let him do whatever he wants.

rExRuN,

Remember, he asked us if it was a good idea. So, for all intents and purposes, he set himself up.

i wouldnt...its your fault for not working hard enough at your current school

thats not so harsh, at my school a 4.5 GPA gets u ranked about 47-50
and i think you should do it, its not such a bad idea, you are the one that has to adjust not us, and im sure you have no problem with it.. it can in no way hurt you, it can only help you look better..

It will absolutely not help you look better. Assuming your GC at your new school will be writing a rec for you, it will basically say nothing, so that's something that will hurt you. It sounds like either you haven't done very well or your school is really competitive. If it is the latter (which I will assume), then the colleges you are applying to will most likely know that, and thus a lower class rank will be accounted for. Transfering high schools just to bump up your rank is ridiculous in my opinion. That is just like if someone goes to a really easy high school and gets all 100s and then transfers to a really competitive high school and gets 1st in the class...to me, that is just unethical.

It will look very strange to a college adcom so I wouldn't suggest it (along with all the other negatives listed above).

Alright,
If you were transferred in the 10th grade, it would be alright. But 12th? NAH

Unless you're in a state like Texas that guarantees admission to their top state schools for rank, it's pointless.

Stupidest idea ever. Besides, at my school they don't even rank transfers.
