Once you're accepted to one of their schools, how easy is it to switch schools? Can you do it whenever you want?

I'm probably applying to the College of Arts & Sciences but there's a definite possibility that I may want to enter the School of Engineering(I may also do the other way around). So I was just wondering how the process of switching schools within Vanderbilt works.

I have a child who did switch at the end of his freshman year (from Engineering to A&S), but that has been several years ago, so I hope any students with more current knowledge will correct me if I’m wrong. As far as I know you can switch, but not until the end of the freshman year. It’s not terribly arduous. However, the big warning flag I see in your post is the idea of switching TO Engineering since their curriculum is so structured and you would need to be taking their courses during your freshman year. Just because you haven’t officially switched doesn’t mean you can’t take courses in another college, but be sure to get official information if you think you may want to explore Engineering. Vanderbilt is way too pricey to add time to your college career!

it’s not difficult to switch schools within vandy as long as you do it fairly early (end of freshman year, after fall of sophomore year). it’s actually kind of common. a lot of people end up switching into peabody.
