Hi, my name is Stephanie
and I'm having a portfolio review at the Lubin house on January 9th.
I'm applying to Syracuse University as a Fashion Design major
and later on I plan on double majoring as fashion design and film.
I am really nervous about the interview, does anyone have any tips
that will help me out?
I'm really nervous that I won't get in, because my average is an 87 and I got pretty low on the sats.
I'm not a good test taker, but do I have a chance?, I also qualify for HEOP.
also, i go to a CTE school, which is computer and technical education, i am ranked 14/93 of my class, I have been class president for 3 years, captain of the varsity softball team, part of the varsity Track Team, Journalism club, robotics team, volunteer for Fashions Night Out, An intern for 2 years now, Part of the prom committee, honor roll student.
may someone please help me out, give me some pointers on how i should go about the portfolio review and my chances? thank you.

You have many good qualifications so just be yourself. Make sure that you research the Syracuse program and can talk about why you are interested in attending there. Sorry that I can’t give you specific pointers about the portfolio review, but I know that it is important to Syracuse that you show specific interest in their school.

thank you, i am really interested i wrote an extra essay just for them, extra teacher recommendations they are my number one choice the only thing i am worried about is my sat scores because i got really low. but thank you so much if you have any other advice or words please let me know =].

I’m assuming you’re talking about an art portfolio since you want to major in fashion design. Be prepared to talk about each piece in your portfolio (even though you will probably not have to). You don’t have to go on about technique or anything like that but about what motivated you, what your idea was, how well you think you accomplished it, your reasons for your choices, etc. Basically, what were you thinking about during the making of it? You may be asked about what or who inspires you. It would be good to know something about fashion design, have favorite designers and be able to talk about what excites you about their work.

the most important thing is to put pieces in your portfolio that you truly love, and share your enthusiasm.

Be prepared with questions of your own, which they always ask for. A good one might be, “how many of the students who graduated last year in Fashion with a film minor have jobs today?”

I don’t do chances, but at least from our school most kids with a B+ to A- weighted average are accepted even with average SAT scores (1500/2400). From what I can tell from our scattergram it looks like grades are more important than scores.

However, for art school admission, generally the portfolio is at least as important as the grades. Be prepared to say something about each piece in your portfolio. I agree with merryecho - it’s good to have questions of your own. Certainly asking about what recent graduates have gone on to do is a good one.

thank you very much. how do i bring up HEOP in the review? should i even do that?..Will there be more then one interviewer?
