Has anybody gotten into Falk college yet?
If you are a very strong student Cuse can be generous with merit. My son (now a junior) got a generious merit scholarship although he did not qualify for financial aid. Some of his friends who had slightly lower GPAs and test scores received less generous merit.
May I ask what is considered generous? $25K or more? I’ve been trying to gauge how much merit my son would get if accepted. 'Cuse is his first choice, but it is also the priciest. Thanks.
I’m aware that Syracuse isn’t a public institution, but do they tend to accept a lot of kids from New York ?
they tend to accept a lot of kids from new york due to the sole fact that there are more kids applying from new york - they have more knowledge about the institution and are more inclined to come
I’m not a Syracuse expert. S21 applied for film but I think it’s difficult to tell about merit. We went through this last year with S20. He applied to schools that would’ve probably given him more merit , maybe a lot more, 2 years earlier based on his stats. It’s gotten to be soooo competitive. I’m guessing Covid has probably made it worse. Good luck.
This year is certainly the most competitive it has been in a long time. A ridiculous increase in applications combined with 2020 kids who deferred their freshmen year and are submitting their applications, has made for some unsavory acceptance rates in schools that would usually be easier to get in to.
I’m an international student and I take the Cambridge A Level curriculum. I was admitted 2/20 with an annual Dean’s scholarship (10k/year). I thought I’d share my stats to help future applicants.
GPA: n/a (my school doesn’t do GPA)
SAT/ACT: 1460 taken junior year
Class Rank: n/a (my school doesn’t do class ranks either but I can safely say that I’m in the top 5 out of 30)
School/Major: Newhouse/Magazine, News and Digital Journalism
EC’s: Founded a literacy and education nonprofit, founded my school’s first campus magazine (bilingual + online), three years of international academic decathlon and debate, four years of student council (elected Executive Board in junior year), a two-month internship at an NGO for women’s justice, and a couple of other ECs related to writing and social justice. No sports ECs.
I did not get interviewed. Hope this helps! All the best
i applied ed and they deferred me to regular. i sent them a mid year report along with a letter of continued interest last month. my biggest worry is that they wont see that ive improved and wont know what to do with me so they’ll just waitlist me.
has anyone heard for broadcast journalism newhouse? i live in California so idk if that’s a factor
its not because its a private school so they don’t release by state!
could they potentially release decisions today as well ?
My son had a 4.3 GPA and 33 ACT and got $20K in Merit per year. My neice, who had similar stats, but demonstrated finanical need is also at Cuse. She was also 7th in her graduating class. She got more merit ($30k) and also significant financial aid and attends Cuse for less than she would have paid to attend her state university. If this is helpful, my son’s friends who were in the 4.0 range with commendable test scores got either $10k or nothing.
I’ve seen lots of people get deferred then accepted. You did all you could do. Good luck!
I’m worried I’ll get waitlisted tbh. My gpa could be better I sent them an email updating them on my extracurriculars and continued interested; and I guess my ACT score is in their upper range; but I’ve had awful luck with schools this year
Same. I feel like a waitlist is coming for me. I had a 4.0 weighted, test-optional (didn’t submit) an okay amount of EC’s, I did an interview, tour, and showed plenty of interest, but I also applied to Newhouse so I feel like my chances are very low bc I’ve seen a lot of Newhouse acceptances already.
I also applied to Newhouse, 4.0 unweighted, 1260 SAT (could be better), 7 Aps, Eagle Scout, Varsity Soccer and Tennis, Marching band, and a few other ECs. Interviewed and showed lots of interest. But I haven’t heard anything yet so I don’t know what to think. Cuse is my top school by a mile, this is killing me.
Anything? Anyone?
Definitely think you will be accepted, not a worry.
3.5 UW (steady increase in course rigor over the years as well as an increase in grades), 28 ACT, good EC’s, updated them on my interest (top school). Don’t know my chances.
Was unable to do an interview due to time constraints and other factors so I feel like that hurts my chances. Is anyone able to chance me? I’ve continually showed interest. I applied to the college of arts and sciences.
Did someone a couple of days ago say that they called admissions and that decisions would be out the third week of March, which we think would be this Friday? Yet I also think I read that the Leadership Scholarships came out late so regular decisions might be later too?
