So do you have any knowledge of the financial aid for Syracuse ? Is it once you receive the email that’s it ? Or could they still give you grants? This is so far off from the calculator! But I think that’s because of the CSS. Every other school has been right on.

Interesting. My daughter is an 1870 scholar, and we had no financial need. I know of others with no need. Maybe a consideration, but not a requirement.

Especially with an acceptance rate of 44%.:sob:

Was there someone that already said that? I must have missed that.

Yea I know that’s exactly what I was thinking. I am freaking out, I am hella anxious

I have no idea. We haven’t gotten my son’s award yet and now i am worrying. My older son’s school does not use CSS and they don’t meet full need but I know at least it was based on the FASFA. My younger son has gotten in there too with a bigger Merit award than Syracuse. I was trying to stay away from the OOS state schools because they don’t meet need buy maybe in the end it will be the same because of the CSS. I am thinking maybe we can negotiate the merit using his UVM award as leverage. But if the financial aid is really lacking it might be too much

Yes because I am divorced, it worked out in our favor for all the other schools with grants etc since I make significantly less than her dad. However, I can see that the CSS is working against us at Syracuse. I am going to try and call Monday to see if this is final and will try to appeal if it is.

Hopefully you can. I am married but our EFC is pretty low because of my husband’s business losses making our AGI much lower than our actual pay. We own a home however, so i am worrying that the home equity will come back to bite us. We already have a Home Equity loan we are paying off so it’s not like we can dip into that. I know that you can sometimes negotiate Merit if you can use an award from a comparable school. He got $15K from Syracuse and $18K from UVM, so maybe we could get it up. Still have to see what they come back with for Financial Aid though.

I think that between ED and ED2 and all acceptances yesterday if we didnt hear, the next wave will be waitlists then rejections

Sadly I agree

If that were true, then they would have just released them all together. I’m sure they are releasing more acceptances next week.

We are both remarried and own homes, but I lose child support in august and they count that in for salary which is ridiculous since everyone loses it at 18. And we lost a ton of money over the pandemic. Mine also got the $15,000 and some federal work study loan plus the $5500. She will not be working Freshman year. No way.

I called during the week and they said the releases are completely random. Don’t give up hope!

Congrats on the acceptance. My older daughter works two jobs at school (she goes to a T30 school). We are full pay and do not have financial need but she works just because she loves it. I have asked her to quit at least one job because she is so busy all the time (she also plays a club sport and intramural sports and has a leadership position in an academic-based club, and is a double major with a minor), but she refuses to quit. A lot of jobs at college are fun social gigs and are a great way to meet people. Almost all of her friends have a job at school. Just food for thought - your daughter may want to work when she’s on campus and most of her friends have jobs they enjoy. Kids at my daughter’s school are always recruiting friends to come work with them. And at college, jobs tend to be super flexible to cater to the ever-changing schedules of students

Good to know! I’m just wondering if they are federal study jobs if they have to work where they are told to work.

I’m not certain its the same at every single school, but at my daughter’s school you can choose which work-study jobs you’d like to apply to, they are not assigned. It seems to be the same at Syracuse. There’s a jobs database and students can choose which jobs to apply to. Good luck in your daughter’s decision.

My older son took work study jobs Freshman and Junior years at his college (Sophomore year he lost eligibility due to a temporary increase in income and Senior year he decided to deliver Doordash instead). There was a large database of jobs to apply to. Freshman year he worked at the Athletic Center and Junior year he was at the front desk at a dorm, which worked out because he was able to get homework done. It was only a few hours a week and basically amounted to spending money. He didn’t contribute to tuition but he was responsible for purchasing own books and for his entertainment money.

@AJMI We had the same message re: now final award at this time but also had requests via the portal to upload information for financial aid. Fingers crossed we’ll see some once requested info is provided.
