D really wants to go to Syracuse, and we feel its the best fit for her also. The only thing that is giving us pause is the finances. Syracuse has been very generous, even awarded her more grant money in response to our appeal. I understand the scholarship is renewable as long as she keeps a minimum gpa. I am confident that she will be able to maintain that.
For families that have grants, do they stay the same for all four years? I remember hearing that as long as your FAFSA and finances stay relatively the same, your grant should also stay the same. Is this true for any Syracuse students/families?
thanks in advance
It’s my understanding the amount of the grant remains the same, unless you win the lottery, inherit funds etc. The amount can even increase if you have a major event which causes finacial loses. So you think writing the appeal is a great idea?
@hollow392 Hey, from experience, writing a FA appeal has been a great idea. I am a part of the incoming class of 2017 and recently wrote an appeal that SU’s Financial Aid Office positively responded to with more grant money. It never hurts to try and it seems SU truly tries to work with prospective students regarding their financial needs. Wish you all the luck.
@mommabear67 The grant should remain the same unless there is a substantial change in finances. My S is finishing his freshman year and I haven’t got his aid for next year yet, but I expect it to remain the same. However my D graduates from her university spring of 2018 and I fully expect a good portion of the SU grant to go away at that time. However he will still have his merit award and it will be cheaper than having two in college at once.
@crazymamaB thank you for your response, I also have an older child in college, but she graduates in 2020. Younger D committed to SU last night with hours to spare!
