Your qualifications are excellent for gaining admittance but you need to show demonstrated interest by visiting Syracuse or interviewing in NYC at Syracuse’s Lubin House. Syracuse and Newhouse like when you show interest in the school and that is factored into the admissions decision. Problem is that $12,000 (Chancellor scholarship) is the maximum merit aid that Newhouse school offers. Tuition is $42,000 plus $14,000 for room and board makes the school still too expensive for the middle class families who don’t qualify for merit aid. $12,000 merit aid is just not enough of an offset to make the school affordable. You would be better off applying to Whitman school of business because the maximum scholarship that Whitman offers is $20,000 for merit aid to high stat students with demonstrated interest and extracurruculars. Syracuse’s liberal arts and science school offers free tuition “Coronat” scholarship for students who commit to majoring in the arts and sciences, but it is a very competitive process to be selected for that.

@trackmbe3 I have 8 family members who went the syracuse and visited sophomore year… Will that lock my chances of getting in?

My son (he had similar stats to you) went through the process last year and the two things they said he should do was visit the Newhouse school AND interview with an admissions rep. at Lubin House, so he did both. And you need to write a good common app essay and “Why Newhouse” supplemental essay. I believe Syracuse had 2 supplemental essays. If you do those well and show the interest, then i believe you’re in! The only question is affordability.

Hi!! I was admitted last year and am entering my freshman year this month in Newhouse. I was accepted early decision with an average amount of scholarship, and my stats were much lower than yours. One thing I learned from visiting the school and from my in person interview on campus is that they really look at your extracurriculars and your writing pieces on the application. SHOW INTEREST. My supplemental pieces were very short and to the point about how Newhouse had been my dream school since freshman year. You have the stats, and the ec’s so just show your interest:)
