My S is trying to decide between these two schools. Has anyone compared the two. I'm interested in any FACTS you might have. He visited and loved both. Obviously, the weather is at the two extremes and Syracuse is more frat-oriented, but does anyone have any other specific information comparing the communications programs at both. My S is interested in Sports Broadcasting.

responded on other thread you created…by the way, PM me with questions if you need to.

okay i just wrote this to another kid but i was actually deciding between those 2 schools too so i know what he is going through. i am actually a student at su for film in vpa. it honestly depends on what you want to do and what program you end up in at su. if you dont know su has 2 different film programs- newhouse and vpa. obviously newhouse gets a lot more attention but if you only intend on being apart of the business aspect and are not actually interested in being a director or cinematographer or something that involves the actual process of making film then newhouse is for you. if you want to be apart of the actual creative process of making and being apart of a film crew then vpa is right for you. and another major difference between newhouse and vpa is that vpa gives you less options and time to let you enjoy other courses outside of your major whereas newhouse requires that you take 65 credits. however since your son is interested in sports management you have to make sure your son gets into newhouse because if he doesnt it is honestly a waste of $50,000. syracuse might actually put him in either a sports management program or just under arts and sceinces. however if your son chooses to try su and he doesnt get into newhouse right away he could always do an intertransfer. he would have to maintain a 3.5 gpa and depending on the number of credits he is coming in with he could transfer or hopefully transfer in by his sophomore year.
also i saw that your s is interested in frats. at su there are a ton of frats to choose from and most are really good. i have friends in frats and they say they love it as long as you are active.

My daughter is a dual major in Newhouse and Whitman. She attended a summer program at UMiami after her junior year (spent 3 weeks taking broadcast journalism courses). She was convinced she wanted to go to UMiami but ended up choosing Newhouse since she believed that the internship opportunities and networking connections were not equaled at UMiami. She has been thrilled with Syracuse; she has lots of friends (from the summer program) attending UMiami and is relieved that she is not there. Feel free to PM me with any specifics.

Actually, my S made his decision last summer to go with Syracuse. He is finishing his freshman year in the Newhouse school.
