@fro (haha almost like afro) anyways i wouldn’t worry about it, there hasn’t been a proven correlation between being able to access FA links before getting an acceptance and actually being accepted.

I wonder if they finish reviewing all applications by now? If they did then they would send out all decisions and FA all at once on Friday rather than in waves…

^I wish i could just be a fly on the wall at the admisssions offices lol

@caxy93 hahahha my first name actually begins with A, so Afro is a common name for me. On the plus side, I don’t actually have an afro. Hahahah, ohhhh my god I just want to know where I’m going to school already. Syracuse is the last I need to hear from. And the suspense is killing me, 3.66 uw 1640 for CAS. (Just retook my sats again last Saturday, hopefully I get waitlisted, instead of just rejected, because a higher sat will get me off that list and admitted almost guaranteed I think)

Hey Froelich I think you will be okay since I personally know 2 others who were accepted with less stats if not then I wish you luck on your other schools. Being wit-listed sucks as well as denied because it is usually late and my advice is to enroll in one of your other choices and if Syracuse admits you then you’ll be out of the enrollment fee but you still may get in . Its like losing money at the race track but in the end its not that bad Good Luck

Its ranked very high but its the Quality of partying that matters I sometimes think that in general all schools are “party schools” its just a matter of choice .In my earnest opinion though I love the Cuse the city of Syracuse is a little “run down” and there are’nt many places other than Marshall Street and if you think about it it is one small street as compared to say WVU, Arizona State,Florida,Georgia etc which engulfs the entire towns.

Too continue on quality education and partying take Vanderbilt U. not known as a party school but academically awesome and Vandy students have Nashville at its beckon .Tulane ,another acadenic giant has New Orleans so the Princeton review survey is a little misleading in that what town could be more "partying than New Orleans or Baton Rouge,Louisiana ha ha

I would’nt even mind being an inadimate object at the Admissions office, like a pencil or even a stapler

@fro Hahahahaha u have such a cool built-in nickname

@orange cool I call stapler! XD

Was thrilled to be accepted to SU, got the email Friday…Saw my financial aid award letter and have decided that SU is a “no can do” My cost of attendance is $58,790.00. SU has awarded me a $6000.00 Dean’s Scholarship and I should get $500.00 TAP. They’ve awarded me about $11,000.00 in loans too. Anyways I figure SU will cost me about $52,000.00 a year out of pocket…way too much, and in my opinion, the school is just not worth that kind of money.

So we wait until Friday, 4 more days!

Yeah and I could use my nickname for U of Tennessee, Texas,Clemson etc. very very versaile ha ha

^lol that’s a good point. Did u apply to all of those places? BC that’s terribly convenient XD

that sux but I agree sounds as though when you graduate you will still be paying for years to come. Why can’t education be affordable ? the whole system is such a crock. Why is SU so expensive ? after all you can recieve a quality education for less .Syracuse makes it sooo hard on students and parents

No I’m actually a parent but my Alma Mater is Uof Texas El Paso we were once known as Texas Western College but our colors are Orange and White oh by the way We actually won the NCAA Basketball championship in 1966 of course I was way too young then but that actually made a movie about UTEP called “Glory Road” corny sports movie but cool

Syracuse is very very expensive, I think they are projecting that it will cost 58k for the next year.

My son got accepted last week with a $12K a year scholarship. That would bring the cost to $46K or more a year. He will probably go to a NYS school with a better engineering reputation at almost 1/3 the cost. The only benefit I see might be with Syracuse’s alumni maybe helping him get connected in the business world. Still… with the NYS school he’ll come out totally debt free.

@Mysticalkites - I did reply to your PM by email yesterday through this MB because I did not have the required 15 posts for PM - ABSURD RULE! You have my D’s # and can give her call if you have questions. I told her that you might and she said that she doesn’t mind at all. If you didn’t get that email, with this post I’ll actually be legal to respond to PM’s - HOW OUTRAGEOUS - just PM me again.

Don’t let the SU projected costs blindside you from consideration. We have seen last year that they run about $5-7,000.00 higher than what you may be likely to spend. Travel could be costly if you go back & forth for every break which may be included in that projection.

You can save in some areas such as used textbooks, decreased meal plan in sophomore year. Becoming an RA can get you free housing which could greatly reduce cost. There are ways to keep costs lower than they publish.

@Froelich - Admissions & FA are two separate departments and the reason why some received their FA and some didn’t. Just because admissions rolls out accept/reject/waitlist emails in waves doesn’t mean that FA Dept. is neck and neck with them on their end. I’m sure the FA has a lot of financial scrutiny when cutting slices of the pie to hand out.

My D is a freshman and was originally waitlisted. Her Stats were comparable to yours but she was trying to get into School of Architecture which was tougher because of limited available seats - about 30 for RD in-state students. SU likes to have a diverse student body so out-of state- students are much desired throughout. Also, the GPA requirements are just an AVERAGE and not a MINIMUM. All in all, I believe SU admissions truly look at you from all sides and don’t weed you out based on a low score or lack of 1000 EC’s on your application.

After sending a deposit to another college for the May 1st deadline, SU admissions actually called our house on May 3rd to tell our D that she’s accepted. FA did not come until 2 weeks after she accepted to attend. That just shows how bogged down FA can get. You have to remember that SU receives approximately 23,000 applications and that’s a task for any school or Dept. within to handle efficiently.

My D absolutely loves the school and the location. The area the school is situated is just outside the downtown proper with numerous hospitals intertwined and a restaurant row at your footsteps. It’s a city atmosphere but not like an overwhelming metropolis. You don’t have that feeling of being remote from civilization and amenities like some colleges have. When my D and I 1st got out of the parking garage and walked a few blocks through campus we both looked at each other and said “This college is awesome!”. The others we visited and where D was originally accepted did not have much going for them. I remember us making comments, while visiting other colleges, like This is okay and that was it. Mass transit puts you anywhere throughout Syracuse within 15 minutes. The school shuttles students to trains and airports for school breaks.

Winter is not unbearable as many post either. We live 3 hours South of SU and actually have had more snow and cold temps than they had in Syracuse. Just think of it this way, Spring and Early Fall will not be as HOT!

Hi! I was recently admitted to Newhouse for film for the first wave of RD.

I didn’t get much FA… And I really want to attend to this school. I feel that I should’ve gotten a merit scholarship, as I have had friends who got in with similar stats who received these scholarships. Does anyone know what kind of standards Syracuse uses?..
