Syracuse Regular Decision Class of 2017

Okay…so i applied to newhouse but was accepted to my second choice, which i accidentally put as i school? I researched it and its very far from what i want to study. My third choice, arts and sciences, is more what i was shooting for. I was accepted for my second choice unfortunately. I cant consider cuse unless its for at least arts and sciences. Wondering if any of you have advise on what I should do in this situation. Is it worth a call/email to see if they can admit me for arts and sciences?

@OLIVIA I definitely would say shoot Orange@syr.edu an email simply stating that you were admitted to your 2nd choice, but feel like your 3rd choice would fit you better and ask if there is any way you could be admitted for that school. (I might even suggest a phonecall if you would be more comfortable with that, I’ve called about 3 times since November and whoever answers the phone is very friendly and helpful).

@Froelich , thank you so much! I would really love to at least consider cuse

I am an international student accepted for Chemical Engineering. I have not confirmed yet since I am still waiting for a few more unis to reply. Can someone please tell me about Chemical Engineering at Syracuse? Quality of academic work? How good the teachers are? Facilities for lab experiments?

I am not a person only concerned on academics. How are the people in Syracuse? Is it an entertaining uni? Night life? Is it situated in a good area?

I would be very thankful to anyone who helps me out. :)

^ I got accepted to Syracuse for chemical engineering :). From what i heard, their engineering is very well respected and 98% of graduates go onto grad school or is employed to their choice of company.

@OLIVIA - I would recommend you speak to a Newhouse Advisor first. Explain your situation and ask about transferring in to the program at a later period (Soph/Jun year) as long as you take most of the required core curriculum courses that any directly accepted freshman in Newhouse would normally take.

Most all Majors have a large area of electives and that’s what would let you start down the path to get accepted with credits at a future date. SU is pretty good about transferring there students once they are in. The plan would be to get your foot in the door and then make the switch.

so I spoke to Syracuse and it turns out i was in fact accepted but since i am an heop student My letter will come in the mail along with a few steps I need to follow inorder to get my scholarship like the summer program etc, but yea ACCEPTED WOO!

Is the office of admissions open this week or is it spring break?

Hey guys if you are accepted post your stats for future applicants reference!

Hi. My daughter was accepted last week (RD) to the Engineering school. Today she received an invitation to the “STEM Symposium” on April 11th. It appears to be a program for accepted STEM students. I know thisnprogram was held this last year but there is no information on CC. Did anyone participate last year? Is it worth it for her to attend? There is an engineering open house for accepted students at the end of the month but this appears to be different. Any insight?

@toptobottom , My issue is not that I wish to be accepted to newhouse for next year. I am happy to be admitted to a second choice, however I accidentally put that as the I school instead of arts and sciences, which i placed as my third choice. I want to know how to go about asking to be admitted for my third choice college.

@xZeiss Syracuse offices are open all week, as there are no major holidays being observed.

@hereweareagain: i got that too! I would love to go but it’s not convenient for me to get up there for a night and then head back home.

Guys help me out should I commit to ASU Walter Cronkite school of journalism, or wait on Newhouse for Syracuse :(

Tough call Nadroj Arizona State is an awesome college expierience very large campus and enrollment .my advice is seriously consider all your options. Syracuse is a great University and not very cheap .ASU is very underrated despite the stuff you read about it as far as academics go.It is a great school as well as the Cuse. Now consider the climate if that is important to you. Also weigh the oppurtunities of being happy and being in your major.that is also important .Being steered away from major is tough. Nevertheless your choices are both pretty goog .Good luck

Now back to Syracuse I commend all that were accepted on the other post =Official Syracuse University Class of 2017 RD Results! All the folks who posted their stats were awesome. My Congrats. Only thing is no one will ever post their rejections or Wait-Lists so there is no real barometer on who is getting in or not. Some are getting in with much lower stats and others with higher ones. It is very subjective (hollistic) at Syracuse which is why it is unique as opposed to many other schools that rely on objective stats. Both means to an end .both have their positives (for example Students busting their tails for 4 years in H.S ) and others ,relying on citizenship or EA’s with ave marks. In the end it will not be perfect and it will be Unfair but it serves the Universities purpose and it probably works. Syracuse is like or as close to a democracy as you can get. Hope my D gets in ,if not disregard all the above lol. By the way I will not be rooting for Syracuse in the Tournament until she is admitted ha ha . Go Gators!!!

Is it true that during the so called Waves that your accepted on Friday ,Rejected and waitlisted on Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday ? and has anyone ever been accepted on any day but Fridays ?

@ hopefullyhoping Kinda cruel that they did’nt notify you and that you had to call. for the price of app fee they should have shot you an email.

Orangewhite: have not heard about anything other than people getting their decisions on any day but Friday. Good luck to your D. Hopefully all of us get good news come Friday.
