Syracuse, Rochester and Skidmore

Quick, tell me EVERYTHING you know about these three schools!

Skidmore is a school where the little Princess can board her pony.

Rochester is very selective, great for sciences, lots of pre-professional. A really top notch school, small campus, lots of grad students. Noplace to shop but the mall.

Syracuse has a nicer campus and is more fun and more diverse. DI sports of course. Also a great academic school but not as good as Rochester. SU has shopping and restaurants on Marshall St.

What will your major be?

I'm currently a psych/english double major, but I've also thought about communications (which I know Newhouse is awesome for and I'd pursue more if I went to syracuse, since I do have a pretty strong journalism background) and just a note, I really want to be able to do theatre at least extracurricularly wherever I am. I assume at Syracuse it will be more difficult since its the largest of the three.

I apologize for not being up on my idioms but what exactly does the Skidmore explanation mean?

and a bump for fun

bumppppppp

IMO- Rochester has more of an Academic reputation than Syracuse. but if your interests lean towards journalism and theatre, Syracuse may be a "better match". Also check out Ithaca College- they too have a good reputation for communication and theater. My kid really liked U of Rochester- but she wasn't looking at journalism/theatre schools.
As a lifetime NY'r- a stereotype of Skidmore may be it's a LAC that gets alot of wealthy-smart- suburban kids. It is a really good school- with a fine reputation.
Gotta admit- we didn't look too much at LAC's as my kids wanted a larger environment. But have been in Saratoga for the races- it's a pretty cute town. Didn't see too much of the school while we were in Saratoga.
but check out Ithaca College for communications/theatre.

If you are interested in journalism and communications, then Syracuse. Syracuse has a great reputation for communications. Rochester is mostly known for its science programs.

I agree with marny1,check out Ithaca College, they also have a great reputation for communications.

But besides comm and theatre, is Ithaca a decent school? My boyfriend goes to Cornell and he's always talked down about Ithaca (granted he talks down about everything).

Ithaca is a very decent school. Though Syracuse-Rochester and Skidmore are probably seen as more academically competitive.
Kids at Cornell probably talk down Ithaca as it is not on the same level as Cornell- and I imagine there would be some "campus rivalry" between the 2 colleges in Ithaca NY.
My kid is also a student at Cornell as is Dennis and we both mentioned you should check out Ithaca college.
but keep in mind- if you and your boyfriend are in the same town- that may also have an influence over your relationship- so that is a whole 'nother area to consider.
Honestly- Syracuse is probably your best bet- but if you need back-up schools, I'd consider Ithaca College too. U of R and Skidmore are great academic schools- but can't vouch for their Communications/theatre Dept's. Though U of R is good for the social sciences - so psych dept. should be real good.
D was considering U of R for psychology/cognitive science. But decided to go ILR at Cornell.

bump
bump

part of the explanation of the Skidmore comment: if you happen to have a horse, you really CAN board it nearby

was at Skidmore last week w/ D. Skidmore has an equestrian team I think, and of course horse racing is big in Saratoga.

All in all, its a very nice school. Theatre & arts are big. D especially liked the non-preppie appearance of the kids, relative to other LACs we have visited. Very modern campus...was moved to its current woodsy campus from downtown Saratoga I think in the 70's.

Bumps bumps n

mmmmmmmmmm
