Syracuse University 2021(2022) ED Applicants

What did it say ?

I got a letter a few weeks ago telling me to send them my dad’s 2015 taxes to complete my financial aid, but I don’t get my mail until the late afternoon on Saturday’s so I’d have to update you on if I got a different letter today.

Yea same i wont get my mail until at least 12 oclock

Does anyone know if most people who interview get accepted???

I believe so especially if you are applying to a college other than Newhouse or Whitman @clangs

What’s up guys!! I’m a current SU Newhouse student (2020) and some of my hometown friends are, like you all, (im)patiently awaiting college decisions! Ask me any questions about how SU does this grueling process - this school is NOTORIOUS for being worse than the Ivies about decision letters… not kidding.
Just to provide some insight, I got my email (it’s not a hard copy letter) on 12/18/15, a Friday, around 6pm. In there, they provide the link to your decision letter which (hopefully) holds the good news! Now, I was lucky enough to be in the first round of decision letters, but decisions were then released for the next few Fridays for about a month. It’s a trial, but don’t get discouraged if you don’t get the decision at the same time as others (even people from your HS!)
Good luck to you all, hopefully I’ll see you on campus next year!

@mikedunn Thanks for taking the time to talk to us man! Newhouse applicant here, hopefully I’ll see you next fall.

@mikedunn How easy is it to switch in between schools at Syracuse? If you personally haven’t ever tried to transfer from one school to another, what have you heard about the process? Obviously Newhouse is very competitive to transfer into but what about Whitman, the College of engineering and Computer Science, the iSchool etc. Thanks!

@mikedunn thank you so much for posting and taking the time to talk to us!! I’m so anxious ah
I applied to Newhouse for print and online journalism. What were your stats?

Welcome to the chat @mikedunn when is accepted students day usually i wanna be prepared to book hotel rooms in advance for my family and I

I wanna be able to watch this video so bad http://admissions.syr.edu/whoyouare/admittedstudents/

the more time that goes on, the less confident I am ):

@njgang I haven’t personally tried to transfer into another school, but it really depends where you are transferring from and into what program. Newhouse has an arts and sciences base, so you actually get most of your credits from the College of Arts and Sciences, so transferring from CAS to Newhouse is probably the easiest, but don’t take my word for it. The thing that’s quite annoying about transfers is you have to have at least 30 SU credits to transfer (into Newhouse, that is, but I’m 90% sure that this is the policy for most of the schools here). So, you won’t be able to transfer until your sophomore year, meaning that you may be behind the rest of your classmates. Whitman is a very competitive school as well, but again, arts and sciences base! The process/ease may be similar. That shouldn’t discourage anyone from transferring to a school that they are more interested in, though!
@theorangeA I had a 3.8 gpa (weighted, I believe around a 3.6 unweighted), 30 ACT, ECs including class president, summer camp counselor, heavy involvement in my school’s youth ministry, and some solid TV/film production classes under my belt. I also interviewed on campus in the Fall.
@deshieldsdeer there are actually a few weekends for accepted students day, and they are usually around April. If you call the Sheraton on campus they may be able to tell you when it is, my parents booked it during a visit in February (after I was accepted) because the concierge told them the dates.

@mikedunn Are you from NY? If so, you attend the ESSPA conference at Newhouse before applying (if you were more involved with TV and film than print journalism it would make sense if you hadn’t), and do you know if receiving accolades at said conference has any bearing on one’s acceptance to Newhouse? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some of our questions dude, so MVP.

Thanks for the response @mikedunn you’re awesome!!

@livdelo I’m not from NY, sorry! Not sure how much of a “bearing” recognition would have (as in it probably wouldn’t make or break your app), but it couldn’t hurt!

So does anyone think we’ll hear today or no?

I’m still guessing Thursday or Friday, but didn’t it come out on a Monday two years ago? Wishful thinking

I just realized we can find out today

i really hope @deshieldsdeer
