Syracuse University and RIT Chances

Hello everyone,

I would like to know my chances of getting into the Industrial Design programs at these schools. My school is a vo-tech school so I have been taking engineering courses since Freshman year. Here are my stats:

SAT: 1600 (WR-540 CR-530 MATH-530)

ECs: First Robotics (MOE 365)
Underwater Robotics Team
Have taken multiple PLTW courses since Freshman Year (8 Total)

Honors:
Honor Roll (First time Senior Year)

Grades:
GPA Cumulative (2.34)
GPA Current: (3.7)

My schools grading scale is higher than most others (A 100-93 B 92-85 C 84-75 D 74-70) if that helps.

not likely a 2.34 and a 1600 SAT is waaaay too low. But then again my brother got into to Syracuse with a 2.5 and a 1600 but then again we are Nigerian.

This was my GPA as of last year so I don’t know my cumulative until I get my report card. And I’m Black/Native American if that helps.

I can’t speak to your GPA, but RIT publishes the middle range for each of its colleges. As I’m sure you know, they practice “differential admissions”, so the requirements for engineering may be different than the admissions for design. In fact, they published a middle SAT range for the College of Design (which includes a BFA in Industrial Design) at 1610-1940, so 1600 is very close to the 25% of students (I’m not sure if it’s admitted or accepted - that’s not stated). On the other hand, engineering students are in the 1780-2030 range. If you really mean Industrial Engineering rather than a BFA in Industrial Design then you have lower chances.

Honestly, you really never know with college admissions. Looking at your stats, you seem to be on the lower part of the scale for Syracuse, so if you write a really amazing essay, I’d say you have a chance:)

i would put native american if i were you. And yea like krcuschieri said, just write a good essay and see what happens. chances are prob better for cuse than rit.
