No one on the accepted students form thing?

Has anyone received merit scholarships?
I received my financial aid package, but it says nothing about merit based. Does that just mean I didn’t get any? :(

Hey guys, add me on facebook!! Paul Noga!

Those who haven’t been accepted yet, is “Senior Midyear Grades” showing up as missing on MySlice? Have they pushed me to regular decision somehow?

I applied regular and i’m still missing my mid year grades. My College guidance can’t send them until the end of Jan…

Yeah my mid year grades wont be on there till like mid jan but it doesn’t say I have anything missing.

@xZeiss, yes. I was deferred to regular decision and they ask for mid year senior grades. They may also ask for additional things, such as improved SAT scores and/or other recs, but I guess the most important is the mid year grades.

Were you given a reason why you were deferred? Midyear senior grades popped up on my missing list during the first wave.

hey guys add me on facebook and follow me on twitter!

@xZeiss, they just wanted my mid year grades to see if my upward trend still goes on. SAT retakes are optional, but I’m gonna retake them :)

yoleeski:
Sounds good on your part. Good luck. I’m just a little confused why I (possibly) have been thrown from ED to Regular Decision. I’m guessing I’ll just have to wait until third wave and hope for the best.

For all of you wondering why you aren’t getting any money for Newhouse, it is because the school is so competitive that if you decide not to go, someone else will fill your shoes and pay the full amount. It’s ugly, but its the truth. Colleges are businesses, they really don’t feel bad for anybody. The amount advertised on collegeboard is largely inflated. Most of the people I know do not receive any financial aid from SU. The few that do are paying $5k-15k a semester, which I guess would average over the raw numbers at SU to about “$30,000”. Looks good on paper as a selling point, but I really don’t think its realistic.

Merit scholarships are somewhat rare. It really depends on your grades/personal situation, as well as the school that you apply to.

Now don’t overgeneralize. I received $8000 in merit, which is good considering it only ranges up to $12000. I also received $42,000 for my freshman year, with $10,000 of this being unsubsidized loans, but with the omittance of that, grants given to me were still at a very high $30,000.

If you are a family in need, I wouldn’t say all hope is lost considering all that I got.

I’m not sure if you’re right about the financial aid being school related, because I’ve never heard that before. It is very logical though considering the competitiveness of Newhouse! I am enrolled in the iSchool which only seeks 100 students per incoming class, so that is why I received my merit award ~ an admissions employee on my last visit told me that the top 10-20% of students in each school receive the merit.

Also, merit scholarships are not related to your personal situation, they are strictly grade-based.

I haven’t heard back at all. Does this mean I got deferred?/: I mean, I feel like they should at least tell me if I was deferred or not. Are they no longer sending out notices for people who applied ED???

How competitive is the engineering program?

It says on the Syracuse website they’re sending out ED decisions til mid-January

@ lilmelonred - I applied to Syracuse RD for Engineering. Did you apply ED? Accepted?
