Syracuse University Waitlist 2025

Hey guys! Didn’t see a forum for Syracuse University Waitlist applicants! So I thought I’d start a discussion! What do you guys think about waitlist activity this year for Syracuse?

I was checking the Syracuse waitlist from the class of 2024 and the first person to get off the waitlist (and become accepted) was on April 10th. It was just this one person, I think, but mostly everyone else on the thread heard back before May 1st. Hoping for the same this year.

That would be great to get a response before 5/1!! Fingers crossed!

thanks for sharing! this gave me hope lol

Of course! I am waiting for my decision to come off the waitlist as well so I am anxiously hoping that they release before commit day to make my life easier. While that one person received their decision on April 10th, it seemed as though they were the only one that did. Rest assured, everyone else on the forum received their updated decision on April 29/30. Really hoping for the same this year.

so far away yet so close. I’m literally dying over here. What major did you apply for?

Political Science in Maxwell. How about you?

Same! Praying for both of us, haha

Hey everyone! I was accepted off the waitlist last year and thought I wouldn’t get in, but ended up getting in at the last minute! I was let off the waitlist for Newhouse on April 30 or 31st I believe. If Syracuse is truly where you want to go, I would highly suggest contacting your admissions counselor and letting them know that it is your top choice and that you will go if you get in. That is what I did when I was on the waitlist. Also, if you have any new accomplishments since you applied, let them know!

Hi there! Thank you for sharing!! I have done exactly what you’ve suggested and am wondering…did you continue to stay in touch? Or did you just do what you suggested and waited for a response? I don’t want to be annoying but want to ensure I’m doing what I should.

Hi!

I initially just emailed my admissions counselor saying that I accepted my waitlist position and would definitely go if I got in. Later on I emailed them again because I had won a writing award and started a blog since getting on the waitlist. So, In my opinion, I would only email them to tell them that it is your top choice. If you have any new accomplishments or if your grades increase, if you get new improved scores, any new positive info about you and your accomplishments, then I would email them again. However, if you have no new info to share with them, I wouldn’t keep emailing them. Just emailing them once telling them it is your top is enough  Good luck!!

Do you guys know how many people got accepted from the Maxwell waitlist last year?

Yeah, I was waitlisted Newhouse, I don’t wanna say its my number 1, cause it would only be number one if they gave me a lot of money which is unlikely.

how are you liking it? how have your newhouse classes been? what dorm are in you?

I am actually at home taking all of my Syracuse classes online this year! So I went on campus, all set to stay on campus, but ended up going back home after 10 days. My 10 days there was not the best experience. I really didn’t like the area of Syracuse, my dorm, or the students I was meeting, when I got there for the first time, I just knew right away that it wasn’t the school for me. So I might be transferring for my sophomore year. However, there was absolutely nothing wrong with Newhouse or SU itself. Newhouse is AMAZING, the classes, professors, resources, and connections within Newhouse is unbeatable. There is a reason why it is known globally as the best communication school in the world. It is going to be so hard to leave Newhouse because it is just so great, but unfortunately, I just cannot see myself being happy at Syracuse and cannot see myself being fulfilled or satisfied for the next 3 years. Its an amazing school but I have to put my mental health first, and Syracuse was just not good for me. If I could, I would stay at Newhouse, and I would recommend it to everyone considering it, but Syracuse is not the right fit for me. Like I said before, it there is nothing that Newhouse did wrong that made me want to transfer, its about the students and location mostly. However, everyone I know seems to absolutely love Syracuse, so don’t solely go by my experience. So many people are having the times of their lives there. Also, I was in Sadler Hall, which is on the less “nice” side of campus. The best dorms for freshman I would say are on Mount Olympus- Flint and Day.

Hi fellow waitlisters! Are you guys receiving emails about dorm tours and such? Just wondering if they send these out to all waitlisted students as well as accepted students, in the event we get a spot eventually?

housing is random anyway and you can’t select a dorm. you can rank living learning communities though. basically unless you go with a llc you get what you get and a tour is just fluff.

Yea I still get email updates on webinars that they’re having and info sessions I don’t know whether this is a good thing to look too much for clues on whether I’ll get a future spot, just really unsure.
