I'm having trouble deciding where I would like to go to college. I've got it down between Indiana University at Bloomington and Syracuse University. At Indiana, I've been accepted to the Kelley School of Business which all my friends tell me is really good. At Syracuse, I've been accepted to the Whitman School of Management (Business school) and The Newhouse School of Public Communications which I also hear are to very competitive programs. So if I attended Syracuse, I would be double majoring. I was wondering if the double majoring would make me more competitive as a candidate eventually trying to get a job. Also, I was wondering which alumni networks would be more helpful, I live in Connecticut and would like to get a job in New York City, but really as long as I have a good job in business somewhere in a city, it really doesn't matter where it is. Which School lands better jobs for their students? If you could weigh the pro's and con's of each and if anyone has any opinions on either school or recommendations for me, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

If New York City is your landing destination, given the alumni connections I would say Syracuse. I also like the flexibility in your major options (who knows you, like more 1st years, may change). That said, you CANNOT make a bad choice here at all. Good Job!

I would disagree. IU Kelley > Syracuse for business. It’s really a premier program that doesn’t get enough recognition it deserves. Kelley has excellent recruiting from Chicago but you can get opportunities in NY as well.

Hi ajganley,

Indiana without a doubt. I am from NYC, and I went to Indiana for my undergrad along with many New Yorkers. I didn’t pursue a business degree, but many of my friends did, and all got really good jobs in New York after graduating, including one who landed a job with Goldman. Kelly is often rated top 10 undergrad business schools, and that would me my choice.

Good luck,

Both will land you a job. I recommend Kelly direct admit over Whitman because its a better program and its cheaper. Yes, as others have mentioned, you won’t have a hard time getting a job in New York just because you went to Indiana.

Do you think Kelley out weighs being able to dual major at syracuse?

I still says Syracuse because of the Dual Major and Communications is outstanding at Syracuse. You may end up preferring one over the other (which often happens). But at the end of the day you can’t make a bad decision both will serve you well even if you end up majoring in something else altogether.

Most students do not wind up double majoring even though they think they will stay with it. I would go with Kelley.

You can might dual major at Indiana too. Has excellent comm arts/journalism dept.
