Hello all! I am returning back to my University in a few months and I have a question about what type of computer I should buy. I am stuck between a google Chromebook or a tablet. I like how both are very portable and easy to use. I had a laptop my first time around and that was just too heavy to carry around. I have made a list of things I need to have for school
Tablet or Chromebook needs to have:
USB port (for flash drive)
headphone jack
Keyboard (either attached or detachable)
Microsoft office (powerpoint, word, etc…)
adobe for documents
As most RAM and storage as possible
good battery
bluetooth compatible for printer
What would be my best bet?
Thank you!
Have you considered the Microsoft Surface? It’s more expensive but it has everything you’re looking for and more.
I haven’t heard of that. I will look it up. Thanks for the advice!
Chromebooks don’t meet your requirements. They operate on the Google platform (not MS Office), you must be connected to wifi to access all features, and storage is nearly all in the cloud.
However, if all you want something light and cheap for taking notes and sharing work and connectivity is not an issue, they are a practical, economic choice.
Is the reason for Adobe just to view pdfs? You don’t need Adobe for that. You can also use Google docs for most things that Microsoft Office handles. And a chrome book is going to be a lot cheaper than a tablet, plus it has a real keyboard that we’ll make doing regular work a lot easier. If you’re going to be using this as your daily driver, I’d think a chrome book would be a better bet than a tablet. Plus, chrome books will be getting the Play store soon, which will give you more apps.
