taft or hotchkiss?

basically, which one is easier to get in to and offers more financial aid? THANKS!

Taft definitely is easier...but they are mostly a-holes over there...

betcha that HYPwannabe is a hotchkiss student.

Taft and Hotchkiss are huge rivals so there is a dire need to be objective. Taft is a bit easier to get into. Hotchkiss accepts about 20% while Taft accepts a bit over 25%. Both schools contain great kids and both schools contain "a-holes"? You can apply to both (i am) but if you go to one school you must vow to hate the other.

What kinds of things do you like to do? Are you into sports? I would check out what each school has to offer. I chose to visit Hotchkiss over Taft becuse Taft doesn't do well in lacrosse and Hotchkiss rocks at lacrosse.

Hey, maybe I should rethink that. Taft might want some good lacrosse players. It's tough because there are so many great schools.

thanks guys! do you know which one offers more FA?

Nelly - Hotchkiss, I think.

thanks! :)

hotchkisshotchkisshotchkisshotchkiss...
the only problem is is that i want a roomie!
other then that, i'm pretty golden :)

ugh, i dunno, this is such a hard decision. and the really scary thought is that i might get five rejection letters and all this posting will come to nothing. :(

Join the club Nelly. I think I'll also be receiving 5 rejection letters. There's really no true safety for applicants like me. Just do your best, and remember that you don't need 5 acceptances. I'm assuming that you're applying to schools you actually want to go to, so as long as one school accepts you, you're set.

haham u was watching Polly Pocket and this one episode her widower dad goes away marries another girl. and the girl dosnt like polly so she sends her to "A REALLY NICE BOARDING SCHOOL".

i'm like...woah. no. thats NOOOTT how it works. you need to bust yo' butt.
haha, so watch me bust it all for nothing and get 5 rejections :(

I think we're all in the same boat when it comes to rejection letters, unfortunately.

Crickett --- I know what you mean. In "The Sound of Music", the Baroness attempts to marry the 'Captain', and join his family of seven children. When told that she never really seemed like a comforting mother-figure, she replies with the priceless line,

"Oh darling, haven't you ever heard of a lovely little thing called boarding school?"

There's also the portrayal of boarding school being a fun-in-the-sun life in California, as shown in "Zoey 101", which is another stereotypical portrayal of the 'boarding school life'...

pshaw, Cinnamon, Zoey 101 is garbage! if boarding school was really like that then my name is Captian Georg von Trapp

Hotchkiss is much more difficult than Taft regarding admissions. Has the OP taken the SSAT yet? Hotchkiss students tend to be extremely bright, hardworking and very driven students. I would not recommend Hotchkiss to a student scoring below 80 on the SSAT in most instances. Taft would be a reasonable choice for students scoring 60 or above on the SSAT.

icy: you wouldn't reccomend it for kids scoring below 80 overall or below 80 in any one of the sections?

Circumstances differ, but as a typical guideline 75 to 80 SSAT overall is when students should start considering Hotchkiss due to the intense academic atmosphere. It is much different for recruited athletes such as ice hockey players who may repeat a grade or enter as a PG-- post graduate. Whether an applicant is seeking financial aid, a sought after athlete, or an URM, etc. are other factors that commonly come into play. In the not too distant past, Hotchkiss admissions folks told me that they really begin to read seriously applications showing an 85 or above. If you take the SSAT as a ninth grader applying for tenth, then decide to repeat ninth grade, the SSAT may be "regraded" yielding a higher score for the same test when measured against ninth grade applicants vs. tenth grade applicants. I have no direct knowledge of anybody doing this, but I have heard anecdotes of this many times.

interesting. I ask because I have an 82 overall but 72 in reading. Phew, i think i made it :)

i have yet to take the SSAT and am really really nervous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it just seems like this really little test that means so much!!!!!! andybody know st. george's SSAT avergaes?

St Georges average is 81%
