whats great about hotchkiss?

i'm considering not applying to hotchkiss -- should i? what sets it apart from the other schools? why should someone be interested?

Have you visited it? If you have visited it and don't see anything special about it then dont waist your time applying..

bump it up. lets get some useful comments here!

Bearcats goes there. Wait till she comes.

oo! well thats wat i thought at first- but when i visited, wow! it was soo beautiful, the faculty seemed excellent, (check out their english department in main if u get the chance... ^^) my tour guide was pretty awesome too- he was actually on his way to competing for the world speech/debate championships. also i liked my interviewer- very laid back and relaxed, especially when i told her about my democratic schooling. (id heard somehwere that hotchkiss's pretty conservative too) oh and the dorms are THE BEST out of any school ive seen- high ceilings, good size, built-in dark colored wood cabinets... ^^ lol funny how a visit can change ur mind.

mmmm mahogany!

now i'm applying! cathedral ceilings and mahogany.. what more could i want out of an education?

dude, if u want cathedral ceilings, look into taft. that brochure certainly doesnt do taht school any good- if there was a school that looked more like a castle, it would be taft, hands down. definitely much nicer than i thought. but then again, isnt that the case for the average bs?

oh ya, mahogany, lol i was trying to think of the word.

"isn't that the case for the average b's"

you mean for a school that admits students with a b average?
would i have a very good chance at being accepted?

Bs means boarding school, not the grade B. :D

good luck blairt, ^_^ go visit too! im sure youll like it.

...well i think that has to do with horace taft himself. he was such a damn elitist. (he founded skull and bones)

oh my taft interview was interesting too. peter frew, teh head guy of admissions is kinda direct/blunt/energetic. lol the first question he asked me was 'so what other schools are u applying to?'

haaaaa i hate that question...

haha omg i soo bs that question everytime i get it, i pretty much NEVER mention exeter or andover loll.

Mahogany?

Certain woods can be stained dark to look like it but real mahogany is hard to get and very expensive. It is used for the finest furniture. If Hotchkiss has real mahogany in its dorm rooms then it is a poor investment on its part, especially since teenagers can be excessively rough on their surroundings.

leanid, some of them are real because most of the dorms are built long ago and renovated but they keep the best stuff...anyway i will type my feeling about hotchkiss later, i m in between 2 classes lol....

I stand corrected.

I stand corrected. Was not considering the old dorms.

are you guys really arguing about mahogany?

this forum is so weird.
