Hello,
I was wondering as the title suggests if this is possible. I would have to have attended:
** CC for a full one year
** Meet Requirements for TAG(GPA, etc…)
So would it be possible to TAG to UCR if I go back to CC for a year after being dismissed from UCI(For the same major). I took a lot of units at UCI for more information, I was dismissed towards the end. I also transferred to UCI from a CC, I did not go out of HS.
Thank you in advance for any responses
you should probably take this to the California colleges board, @Gumbymom and @ucbalumnus would know more on this
From the UC website:
** Students who were previously enrolled at a UC campus and want to transfer to a different UC campus must be in good academic standing (last term and/or cumulative UC GPA of 2.00 or above) at their prior UC campus to be considered for transfer admission, even if that UC campus is not their last school of attendance.**
So no you cannot TAG to a UC after being dismissed.
Why not consider a Cal state?
If you want to attend a UC, then Students who left a UC campus on academic probation or not in good academic standing (last term and/or a cumulative UC GPA below 2.00) and wish to return to the same UC campus must contact an advisor in the school/college in which they were previously enrolled at UC for guidance on any requirements for readmission.
This might be uncalled for, but if I omit my transcripts for UCI, will the admissions office know if I left on good academic standing? Will this be an automatic rejection if I omit I ever went to a UC?
Yes you would be caught. There is an entity called the National Student Clearinghouse that has all data about your schooling and colleges check it.
Why does it have to a UC? Many great Cal state options and unless you want to try for readmission to UCI, you will have to look at other non-UC schools. How many units have you accumulated and how many are upper division vs. lower division?
I don’t mind a cal state, though I cannot move so I would need to commute far. I was thinking Fullerton, san bernidino, Pomona. I live in Riverside near UCR. So by the bold letters @Gumbymom typed, I cannot apply to any UC schools if I was dismissed or I cannot TAG or both? I apologize for the questions.
Since you were dismissed by a UC (not in good academic standing) you cannot TAG or transfer to another UC. You can only try to get readmission to UCI.
You can however, try to transfer to a Cal state or private university depending upon how many units you have completed and how many are transferable.
The Cal states do require the following:
**
-have completed a minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter units of transferable coursework
-have an overall college GPA of at least 2.00; your GPA is calculated using all your transfer units attempted. In high-demand majors and campuses a GPA of 2.00 may not be sufficient to be admitted
-be in good standing at the last college or university attended. In simple terms, “good standing” means you are eligible to re-enroll at your last college or university**
https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/transfer/Pages/upper-division-transfer.aspx
This would mean you would need to attend community college prior to transferring to a Cal state bump up your GPA and complete any missing course requirements.
Private universities might have different requirements for transfer.
I’m wondering whether CSU is an option either. To xfer to UCI from a CC you must have entered as a junior. If you “took a lot of units at UCI” and some/many of these were upper-division then you may have reached senior standing. I couldn’t find a policy online for CSU, but many colleges don’t accept senior transfers; they want you to spend 2 years at their school before they’ll give you a diploma with their name on it.
If you are considering CSU then you should contact the campuses and check on their policy. Another alternative is to contact UCI and see if there is a path to be re-admitted so you can finish your degree.
@mikemac: I have asked OP how many units they have accumulated so far and lower division vs. upper division with no answers. I agree that with Senior standing, many CSU’s may be hesitant on accepting a transfer student with high number of units. Also if OP was dismissed based on low grades, adding more CC course units may make make it difficult to attend any school. I was unable to find any policies on High Unit transfers while the UC’s clearly spell out their policies.
@jf45122: Take @mikemac advice and contact the local Cal states and see what options you have at this point. I agree that trying to get readmission to UCI might be the best chance at completing your degree.
@Gumbymom Yes, I am senior standing. I xfered with a lot of units and gained senior standing after my first quarter. So, at this point: I am looking into local small private school that may accept me. I am a bit confused, so my senior standing from UCI carrys over to my whole student status? In terms of units I am still a junior at RCC. And @Gumbymom stated that the CSU looks at the last school of attendance to determine if the school is in good standing, and thus looks at this GPA for the 2.0 requirement. Would they also take into account my UCI GPA in calculating this. So my question is, does my student standing from UCI carry over if I start taking classes at CC again and would be senior standing?
Just out of curiosity, why were you dismissed? Grades, i.e, Academic Standing? Other?
@bluebayou It was grades.
