Hello, I signed a TAG with UCI for Pharmaceutical Science. I have all my pre-reqs done, except one Biology class (currently taking). This semester, I am only taking Organic Chemistry 1 and Biology. I am thinking about dropping my O chem class because I was told if I do pass O Chem 1, I would have to take O Chem B and C at UCI. My school's O Chem is based semester obviously, so O Chem 1 + 2 = O Chem A + B + C. On my TAU, I wrote that I was enrolled in O Chem and Bio.

If I drop O chem, will my tag be nullified? On assist, it says I only need Gen Chem which I've already passed and I can take O chem when I transfer. Any help appreciated.

Go look at your TAG decision page again, on there it lists all the classes that you need to take in order for your TAG to be valid. Best way to be sure.

I don’t think your TAG would be nullified, because OChem is just a “highly suggested” class, not a prereq, and it wasn’t listed as being a requirement for me to finish on my TAG (Bio major).

I have all my pre-reqs completed except Bio which i am currently taking. O chem is suggested but not needed.
So my question is if I drop O chem my TAG won’t be rescinded? How would I contact all the schools I applied to to notify them?

I don’t mean to bump, but here’s what’s required and what’s recommended. I have over 7 units already and my GPA is fine. B’s and A’s in all Chem and Bio courses so I’m clear. Only thing concerning me is me dropping so late since the TAU was completed in Jan. Anyway, I’m pretty sure I’m clear since I’ve googled up about 30 threads, but just want to be 100% positive.

I think you’re in the clear, but just to be sure look at your TAG decision, specifically the “Major Course Required” section. http://i.imgur.com/ubMdMsp.png

To tell them about dropping the class, email admissions.

My response when I asked UCSC

"If the course you wish to drop was listed on your TAG, it could negatively effect your TAG (because you have already reported this course), but may not effect your application for admittance. If you do decide to withdraw from the course, you must let us know about the change to your TAG.

Sincerely Yours,

UCSC Office of Admissions"

Am I bad at English or the word “effect” in the UCSC email is used in a wrong manner?

Nope, you’re right; affect should be used instead. Also, TAG can be rescinded, but probably will not be because it is not a pre-requisite. You DO have to notify the college though and let them know if you dropped a course.

LOL @ ucsc using affect/effect wrong.
