Hello everybody I am looking forward to applying for tag in September coming up however I am in a bit of a dilemma. I really want to go to UCI and TAG them however I will not be able to complete 3 prerequisites on assist.org but it says that “not all prerequisites are required for transfer students” so I am a bit confused. Will it affect my chances significantly or will it not matter due to them saying that?? Should I try my luck and TAG UCI or just be safe and TAG UCR. I have a 3.5 gpa and 32 units and I have my English and math requirements done already.
Does it state that “not all prerequisites are required” in assist.org since the UCI Tag website says to refer to assist.org for other courses needed? Which pre-req’s will be missing and are they offered at your CC?
Required of all majors in the School of Humanities unless otherwise specified:
-Meet all basic UC admission requirements with a minimum grade of C or better
-Have a cumulative UC transferable GPA of 2.7 (3.4 for TAG)
-Complete 60 semester or 90 quarter units of UC transferable credit by the end of the spring term prior to the fall quarter of enrollment
-Complete the UCI Lower Division Writing Requirement
-Recommended:
Complete four semesters/six quarters, or a combination thereof, including at least one lower-division course in each of the following four areas: composition, literature, history and philosophy (a course is not required in the area of student’s major). To reach the total number of courses required, additional courses approved for UCI General Education Category IV in Humanities disciplines outside the major can be selected;
OR
Complete a one-year lower division humanities sequence which deals with problems of concern to the disciplines of history, literature, and philosophy, and which emphasizes the reading and analysis of significant texts
Review the two year Language other than English school requirement, and prepare accordingly: www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/academics/lang.php
Complete other major-applicable courses that can be found at assist.org
Well, yes it does say that on assist, so that’s a little odd in that it’s saying you don’t even need a Spanish course, theoretically. The TAG rules include fulfilling the required courses for the major and Spanish is saying the courses don’t need to be fulfilled. I suggest, however, you take at least one year of Spanish (preferably more), plus the English, which is part of the UC general requirements and is definitely needed, and maybe as many of the others (History, Lit, Philosophy) as you can. Those can be part of IGETC. For one thing, they will have to be completed at the UC so you benefit by getting them out of the way. And as Gumbymom says there are specific TAG rules that must be followed.
I will be able to complete Spanish 1,2,3, and 4. However I won’t be able to complete Spanish composition, the English literature section and the philosophy section. Due to Spanish 4 being a prerequisite of Spanish composition and I am taking Spanish 4 in the spring before transfer. And my units for the planned semesters are full already so I will not be able to do the literature and philosophy sections.
Send a message to UCI tag dept and ask. I sssume it will be okay but only they can tell you. You can find the contact email or number here.

Hello everybody so UC applications open in about 2 weeks and TAG applications open in about 1 & 1/2 months. I’m looking to apply for TAG to UCI as a spanish major and it says “not all prerequisites are required for admission as a transfer student” and I won’t be able to complete 3 prerequisites will that ruin my chances??
