Hi all, i signed a tag w/ ucsb but was not selected for admission because by the end of this summer quarter, i will have completed 125 units (sb says they barely accept "senior" transfers).
I think a friend also has more than 100 units.
Any thoughts about my situation. By the way, i will never appeal because i do not want to attend ucsb in this fall 09.

Wow. That’s horrible. So…did they approve and you accepted/“signed” your TAG?

Mehh. As long as you don’t want to go there…[:

Since when is 125 units senior status? BTW I will have more than that by the end of summer quarter-well including AP credit. Also I thought they have a limit of regardless of how many units one takes it they will not count past a certain amount towards graduation.

The OP is failing to mention that they previously attended a 4-year university… it’s no surprise that if you achieve senior standing you probably won’t be accepted. Just don’t want people to think this would in any way relate to their chances if they have only attended a CC.

I am a foothill college student.
I attended a foreign university but do not think it matters BECAUSE SB DID NOT ASK FOR MY FOREIGN INSTITUTION’S TRANSCRIPT. I got in ucd last month WITHOUT TAG. I CHECKED TAG FOR BOTH UCSB AND UCSD IN MY UC APPLICATION.
As for my total quarter units, i will have complete 125 csu transferable units.
I do not think i was evaluated fairly. Most of my friends WHO have more than 120 units got in ucsb for fall 09.
That’s all.

^^ You can only apply for TAG for one school.

really? anyways, thanks.

No, that’s wrong. You can apply to all UC’s with TAG if you wanted to, that’s why the option to check box(es) for your desired UC campus(es) are available in the agreement:

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/resources/materials/CC_2007/CC07_TAGform_and_matrix.pdf

I’m going to disregard everything the OP says, because UCSB isn’t going to deny a CCC student admission just because they have 125 units. The OP isn’t telling us all the pertinent information. UC schools require applicants to submit all transcripts, even if you don’t think they’ll find out. So those of you who have more than 90 units completed at a CCC, don’t get your panties in a knot over this thread.

Your application to the University of California, Santa Barbara for Fall 2009 has been received and evaluated. I regret that we are unable to offer you admission. Based on the number of transferable units you have accumulated, you would be a senior. As noted in our admission materials, UC Santa Barbara rarely accepts students with more than 130 units. In our assessment, you will not have sufficient time to complete our undergraduate curriculum within the allowed number of units.

We suggest that you continue your studies at your current institution or another four-year college or university to complete your undergraduate education.

Thank you for your interest in the University of California, Santa Barbara. Please accept our best wishes as you accomplish your educational goals.

Sincerely,

Christine N. Van Gieson
Director of Admissions

they don’t ask for your transcripts until after you’re accepted. Also, you can apply to TAG to more than one school. IF you have units from a 4 year, you will hit the unit cap for UCSB.

“UCSB: The College of Letters and Science does not accept applications from students who have earned 135 or more transferable quarter (90 or more semester) units from a combination of two-year and four-year institutions.”

Last winter 09 quarter, i have 102.50 csu transferable units [1-99].
this spring quarter, i am taking 17 units, and in the summer, i am going to take 6 units(if i do decide to go to ucsb, why would i take this 6 quarter units?).
do the addition here 102.5+17+6 = 125.5 (not even 130 quarter units).

you’re not including the units from the foreign institution

do u think they predict i have taken some units overseas and add those credits to my total transferable units, which exceeds 130 units? my native college does not offer any comparable courses, then how will they be able to claim my foreign trascripts?

i thought tag was only cc - uc, not csu - uc?

if you listed a foreign institution its obvious that you must have completed coursework there. Its very unlikely that you completed less that 4 quarter units of coursework there.

a friend went for one year college at a chinese college, who have taken more units than me and have been admitted to ucsb. anyway. i just want to let people know that sometimes exceptions happened and there are no GUARANTEED THINGS! I UNDERSTAND EVERY CAMPUS HAS ITS’ SPECIAL ADMISSION CRITERIA. ANYWAYS, BEST OF LUCKS TO ALL YOU.

i am from ccc. come on people. haha

Uh, no. Foothill takes really good care of their students, if you know where to look. I mean, one of their counselors told me off the record that their UCLA TAP transfer rate was ~90%.

TAG is guaranteed – it says so right in the name. But for the guarantee to apply, you have to meet the requirements that they’ve laid out. One of those is not surpassing a certain number of units unless you’ve only attended two year institutions. JetForcegeminix quoted the relevant passage here.

I might be mistaken, but surpassing this cap and having any coursework from a four year institution is enough ground for rejection. That’s what happened. It’s unfortunate, and I’m sorry to hear about it, but those are the rules.

let me get this straight
according to this Tag document , you do not need to fill out a form for UCSB to be eligible for tag? all you need to do is complete the IGETC, complete the pre reqs and have a 3.0?
