Take a chance on me!

(It's a good ABBA song, but that's beside the point)

I'm applying EE to Wellesley, and would love to know what kind of chances I have.

State: Michigan
Type of High School: Best public school in the area, and the second best in the state. We're technically a magnet school. We haven't sent anyone to the Ivies in years, but we send a lot of kids to UMich, and a few to top LACs and universities.
Class Rank: I will likely be salutatorian if I keep my grades up. There are only three kids with 4.0s, and I'm just behind them.
Prospective Majors: Biology, physics, computer science, or history... in other words, almost completely undecided.

GPA: 3.98. I don't believe we weight yet.
ACT: Two tries, with 32 composites both times. Retaking on the twelfth.
December 2008: 36E, 34R, 28M, 29S, 10 essay
March 2009: 36E, 34R, 29M, 30S, 11 essay
SAT: One attempt. Retaking in October.
January 2009: 750CR, 640M, 720W, 10 essay
SAT IIs: 780 for US History, 640 for Math II (eek). I'm taking more in November.
AP tests: English Literature (5) and English Language (5) sophomore year, US History (5) junior year, Biology, Psychology, Calc AB, and European History senior year (the latter two will be self-study)

Courses: I've taken basically the most rigorous schedule available to me. My school doesn't offer very many APs. I took an advanced English course for the first two years of high school, and have taken two years of honors science classes. I had three AP classes last year (Lit, USH, and French) and will have three more this year.

Extracurriculars:
--Choir for four years. We spend an average of five hours per week rehearsing or performing.
--Quiz Bowl team for three years, varsity team for two.
--Student Council for senior year. I serve as secretary and am on the prom committee.
--Mentor and teach music with opera camp for young children each summer.
--Internship with cancer center and neurological center of local hospital this summer.
--Legislative debate for three years. I'm a co-captain of the team and have won several speaker awards.
--I plan to join the local FIRST robotics team this year, but that's not guaranteed.

Awards/Honors:
--Will be National Merit Commended
--Awards at local college writing contest (freshman year)
--Number one in state for literature competition (sophomore year), represented Michigan at the national competition
--Published in international writing magazine for children freshman year
--NHS and NHJS (the standard stuff), as well as school awards for excellence in various subjects

Other Notes: I will interview, but I haven't yet. I have visited Wellesley and thought it was beautiful.

Thanks for chancing me!

Go ABBA!

I think you have a shot at being admitted to Wellesley.

It is clear from your 3.98 gpa (unweighted), your challenging
courseload and your 32 ACT score that you have a good chance of being accepted. You earned a 5 on the three APs you have taken so far, and this is also a good barometer of a student’s ability to handle academics at Wellesley. Even though your math score on the ACT and SAT I and II are not as strong as your other scores on these standardized tests, I still think you have a chance using either your ACT or SAT scores.

Your ECs looks good, particularly the opera camp which you have done each summer, your leadership and success with legislative debate as well as your cancer and neurological center internships at your local hopsital. Keep it up!

The essay is important so spend time on your application. From what I can gather from your list of activities and your academic caliber, you would enjoy Wellesley and fit in well. Good luck!

Thank you for your opinion.

Anyone else? Please? :)

Bump!

I have new SAT scores:

CR780
M680
W800

How do my chances look now? Anyone else want to give an opinion?

Wow, over 400 views and only one reply. That’s harsh. >.<
