Take a chance on the essay?

I am applying to Wellesley early review and I don’t think I stand much of a chance. The only essay they ask for is the one on the common app, and I was wondering if I should submit an essay about why I want to attend Wellesley, I figure if they here my reasoning, they might be more likely to accept me.

Should I try it, or is it too much of a risk? I don’t want to be blathering on about Wellesley when they want to here about the person I most admire, or something.

Any advice?

On their application, Wellesley specifically states that they only want ONE essay. I'd stick with what they just ask for.

Yeah, I know. They want the common app one. But for the common app you can write an essay on a topic of your choice.

Since I'm doing Wellesley's app independent of the common app, I was wondering if I should tailor my app toward Wellesley.

That was what I was asking.

Anyone else?

I'd look at it this way: A great essay could make a difference no matter the topic. So it's irrelevant if the essay is about why you want to go to Wellesley. It's only relevant if the essay is a great essay, and in that case any topic will do.

Just make sure it's more about you--they already know about their school.
