Take Foreign Language in Second Semester?

My son will be a freshman business major. The recommended curriculum for the Fall Semester is:
TIDB
CDMA1010
INFO1010
ECON1010
MATH1150
ENGL1010
Cultural Knowledge

As he needs to take SPAN2030 (this was his mandatory placement), which would be somewhat challenging, there is a part of me that wants him to take the Cultural Knowledge course, as there is an adjustment period and Calc, Econ, etc, will be challenging enough. For those who took greater than an entry level language in the second semester, do you feel you were at a disadvantage, as it was 7 months since you had used your language skills? He could always take Spanish instead of Cultural Knowledge, but it would be a more challenging course load. Thanks very much!

My D will be a freshman business major and is planning to take SPAN2030 (I think) second semester. But you can also wait until 2nd semester to take ENG1010. This is just a recommendation and you have to kind of have to go with what fits into the schedule when you actually sign up for classes. My D plans to take CDMA1010 second semester because she found a fine arts course that fit and she wanted to get it out of the way.

I took SPAN2030 my second semester and did not feel that I was at a disadvantage. I didn’t care for my professor AT ALL but that’s another story… lol
