Take Math I, Bio after 9th grade?

Generally speaking, have students completed coursework necessary after 9th grade (Honors Geo + Bio) to take these subject tests? Asking on behalf of my son + these tests didn't exist when I applied to school #little confused here

I suppose it is possible to take SAT Bio after freshman year if your son is enrolled in Honors Biology. Do not expect the Hnrs. Bio course to cover everything though - if your son wishes to get an 700+, he will have to do a bit of studying on his own. Of course, in the best case, your son should take the SAT Bio after he takes the AP Biology class. AP makes the SAT Subject tests seem much easier.

I say do not take the SAT Math I test. The curve is very harsh (you miss one and your 800 goes bye-bye). I suggest that you wait until your son has completed a Pre-Calculus course, and then take the SAT Math II. Good luck. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

No, don’t do it he will not do will.

dont do it. If your son is on an accelreated math course (Reaching Calulus) he should take math II after his junior year. Math I will not look good for a student in an above-level math curriculum.

And for science classes (or any class for that matter), I would higly suggest taking the corresponding AP course first. If he is taking AP WOrld next year, then taking the corresponding SAT II would be fine.

Has he tried any practice tests? That would be the best way to determine if he is ready to take on the real thing.

The math subject tests cover more advanced math topics than one would see on the SAT reasoning test. I think your son will want to have taken algebra II, trig and pre-calc before doing a math subject test – and in general he should take math level two, not level one.

Having said that, my son took Bio-E and math two in eighth grade and did just fine, but he was taking AP Bio and BC Calc at the time.
