Is there calculus on this test or do I take Math II after Precalculus? I'm in Precalculus PAP and, if that is all that is covered, want to take it in June this year.

There is no calculus at all.

I took it before taking precalc and did reasonably well. The toughest stuff on there would be conics, standard Algebra II stuff. You could take it any time, really.

I would highly reccommend taking pre-calc and then the subject test near the end of the course. As long as you are decent at math, you should be able to get an 800.

I couldn’t agree more with the people above me.

Take the test after you have covered Trig, Solid Geometry, Probability and Functions. Basically, you should do more than fine after Pre-Calculus. I am an IB HL Math person and I had to study extra for the SAT II not because I did not know the topics, but because my brain would seek the most complex connection possible. So don’t wait until you are taking Calculus…not that you won’t do the test fine, but the topics it covers will already be so remote to you that it’s just not worth to postpone…Take prep bookS (not just one) and see how it goes; then decide whether or not you are ready. At the end of 10th grade you should be ready to give it a go. :)

Take in June, but start taking some practice tests in early May or late April to make sure you know where you’re at. If you’re good at math and have had a fairly competent math teacher/program, you should be fine. The curve is generous and you should definitely know all the information after a year of Pre-Cal, but don’t wait until the last minute to prepare and find yourself severely underprepared or uncomfortable with the timing, test strategies, question types, etc.
